Just days after being admitted to hospital with multiple organ failure, it is reported that seventies heartthrob David Cassidy has passed away at the age of 67 surrounded by his family. He had retired earlier this year due to his ongoing health issues, primarily with dementia.

'The Partridge Family' star died yesterday (November 21st 2017) having been hospitalised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida since Wednesday after serious organ failure. He had been placed in an induced coma in intensive care, though eventually regained consciousness for a short time.

'On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy', publicist JoAnn Geffen said in a statement. 'David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.'

TMZ reported that he had suffered kidney failure and was in desperate need of a liver transplant. It is thought that his health had spiralled downhill in the last two months, and it was only back in February that he announced that he was retiring from touring due to being diagnosed with dementia - something that both his mother and grandfather suffered.

'My uncle David Cassidy has sadly passed away tonight and in the process of mourning I can't help but thank God for the joy that he brought to countless millions of people', nephew Jack Cassidy wrote on Twitter. 'I don't think I'm alone in saying that we will all miss him. God Speed!'

His other health issues included a long battle with alcoholism, which saw him arrested multiple times for DUIs and put him in rehab in 2014.
