Elle Macpherson (born Eleanor Nancy Gow, 29.03.1964) Elle Macpherson is an Australian model who holds a record for appearing on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue five times.
Childhood: Elle Macpherson was born in Sydney. Her parents are sound engineer Peter Gow, and Frances Gow, a nurse but they divorced when she was ten. Her mother remarried and a mistake was made when Elle registered at her school as they filed her name as Macpherson rather than Gow. She attended Killara High School and studied law for one year at the University of Sydney.
Modelling Career: Elle Macpherson signed to Click Model Management in New York City where she began her modelling career. Her first venture was 1982's Tab TV commercial and by 1986, she had appeared on the covers of Times, Cosmopolitan, Elle, GQ, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. She appeared in every issue of Elle magazine for six years and was the cover girl for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue five times: in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1994 and 2006. In 2001, she co-hosted Miss Universe with Naomi Campbell. Due to the media constantly trying to uncover nude photos of her, she posed for Playboy in 1994. She closed the fall Louis Vuitton runway show for Marc Jacobs in 2010. In 1989 she was nicknamed 'The Body' by Time. In 1994, she left Ford Models and formed her own company, Elle Macpherson Inc.
Other Career: ventures Elle Macpherson later created the 'Your Personal Best - The Body' workout video collection. In 1990, she launched a very successful lingerie collection called 'Elle Macpherson Intimates' with Bendon Limited Apparel. In the company, she was made Chief Marketing Officer and Creative Director. She also launched her own beauty products called 'Elle Macpherson - The Body'. In 2008, she signed a contract with Revlon Cosmetics naming her a Global Brand Ambassador and she featured in their various campaigns. Among her business accolades were Glamour Magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year, an Everywoman Ambassador Award, an Underfashion Club's Femmy Award and a World Career Award from the Women's World Awards. In 1994, she made her film debut in 'Sirens' opposite Hugh Grant. She later appeared in Woody Allen's 'Alice', 'Batman & Robin' with George Clooney, 'The Edge' with Anthony Hopkins and 'The Mirror Has Two Faces' with Barbra Streisand. In 1999, she had a small role in a few episodes of the sitcom 'Friends'. In 2011, she and Gary Lineker featured in a Walkers Crinkles advertisement. In 2010, she hosted 'Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model' and is an executive producer. She also hosts 'Fashion Star' where designers can compete to launch their collections in large retailers.
Personal life: Elle Macpherson married Gilles Bensimon, the creative director of Elle, in 1986 but divorced in 1989. She has two children, Arpad Flynn Alexander Busson and Aurelius Cy Andrea Busson with her ex-partner Arpad Busson. Between 2010 and 2012 she was dating property developer Jeff Soffer. She currently lives in Britain and speaks fluent French. In 1997, her LA house was burgled for $100,000 worth of jewellery, $6,000 cash and nude photos. They were later arrested for the theft and for attempted extortion. She is a European Ambassador for RED which raises funds to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as well as for UNICEF and Australia's Smile Foundation.
