Faith Hill is retiring her rendition of Joan Jett's track I Hate Myself For Loving You from the opening of U.S. primetime sports programme Sunday Night Football.

The country star has kicked off the weekly show with the song - which has the adapted lyrics 'Waiting All Day for Sunday Night' - for the last six seasons of American football and it has been the NBC programme's theme for two Super Bowls.

However, Hill has now announced she will no longer sing the show's official track.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "Amazing 2 (sic) have been part of Snf - an honour. I've just let everyone there know it's time 2 (sic) let someone else rock the open (sic)."

Sunday Night Football producer Fred Gaudelli adds, "Faith Hill is family to all of us at Sunday Night Football. For the last six seasons and two Super Bowls, her opening performance of Waiting All Day set the tone for Snf and became a television staple. We will always be grateful for her performances and friendship. We wish Faith nothing but continued success."

Hill took over the slot from Pink in 2006. A replacement has yet to be announced.
