If there was anyone who didn't mince their words regarding their feelings on Donald Trump being named the President-elect, it's John Oliver. The 'Last Week Tonight' show host has been particularly vocal about his lack of support for the Republican candidate, but nothing he said previously compared to his reaction of the news.

It seemed John Oliver tried his best to make light of a situation that he ultimately believes is hopeless and terrifying, but there was definitely a dark and serious undertone to his response to the election results. He referred to businessman Trump as a 'Klan-backed, misogynist Internet troll' and spoke about how unwell the news coverage has made him. 

'It has been wave after wave of nausea all week. I woke up on Thursday fractionally better, but then I turned on the TV and saw Trump in the Oval Office with President Obama', he said, before making a joke about Obama's apparent lack of warmth towards his successor.

He also warned against this whole idea of 'giving him a chance', explaining that it is in danger of normalising Donald Trump when he his frankly 'not normal'. 'Giving him a chance in the sense of not speaking out immediately against policies that he's proposed is dangerous because some of them are alarming', he said, and added that the fact that he may not have been honest about his intentions is no comfort either. 'Either we just elected a president who didn't mean a single word he said, or we elected one who did. And it's impossible to know which one', he continued.

John ended yesterday's (November 13th 2016) episode with a montage of celebrities and passers-by outside talking about why 2016 sucked so much. From the deaths of David Bowie, Prince and Leonard Cohen to the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Not to mention the Syrian conflicts, the UK's Brexit referendum and the growing list of black civilians that have been shot dead by police.

'F**k you 2016!' was the message that John and everyone had for this miserable year.
