The Training Day star tracked down Dern and told her they were distant cousins on her mother Diane Ladd's side of the family. Ladd is related to playwright Tennessee Williams, who is Hawke's great-granduncle.

Fact: Actor Bruce Dern and his daughter Laura Dern are slated to appear side-by-side for an in-depth interview on U.S. talk show Inside the Actors Studio. The visit from the Oscar-nominated pair will mark the first time in the history of the series that a father-and-daughter duo are interviewed at the same time. The episode will air in the U.S. on 26 December (13).
