Scott Stapp's estranged wife has filed legal papers asking authorities to have the singer placed on a psychiatric hold just weeks after his last hospitalisation.

The former Creed star was involuntarily committed to a mental health facility on 13 November (14) for 72 hours after police officers in Florida found him wandering at the side of a road.

His story hit headlines weeks later after he posted a video on Facebook.com detailing his financial struggles, revealing he is broke and homeless, and now the drama has taken another turn after his estranged wife Jaclyn Stapp and mother-in-law Hayat Nesheiwat filed legal papers in a bid to have him committed again.

The documents, which were filed on Wednesday (26Nov14), ask a judge to have Stapp placed in a mental health facility for 60 days amid claims he is struggling to kick a drug habit without professional help, according to Tmz.com.

After posting the initial video on Facebook, Stapp added a statement on Friday (28Nov14) which reads, "I'm going to step back and let God control everything from here on. I should have continued to do that before I allowed my hurt, frustration, and emotions take control and post those videos... This is a test of faith, and I will never give up or lose my faith. No matter what. This will be my last statement until after justice is served. Love to you all my friends."

Stapp and his wife are in the process of divorcing.
