Martin Freeman (born 08.09.1971) Martin Freeman is an English actor best known for his role in the BBC comedy 'The Office', the Christmas rom com 'Love Actually', sci-fi comedy 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and Peter Jackson's Tolkien trilogy 'The Hobbit'.

Childhood: Martin Freeman was born in Aldershot, Hampshire. Geoffrey, a naval officer, and Philomena, are his parents but they separated when he was young and his father passed away when he was 10. He was raised a Roman Catholic and attended a Catholic comprehensive for getting a place at London's Central School of Speech and Drama.

Acting Career: His first notable role was in 2001 as Tim Canterbury in 'The Office'. Whilst on that show, he also appeared in Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Ali G Indahouse' and 'Love Actually'. In 2003, he took on the role as Lord Shaftesbury in BBC mini series 'Charles II: The Power and The Passion' and, following that, appeared in the sitcom 'Hardware'. He was in Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's zombie comedy 'Shaun of the Dead' in 2004 as well as their cop slasher flick 'Hot Fuzz' in 2007 and will appear in another of their movies, 'The World's End', in 2013. In 2005 he starred in the BBC series 'The Robinsons' and also appeared in sci-fi comedy 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'.

In 2007 he was in the film 'The All Together' and appeared in the TV comedy 'Boy Meets Girl' and Christmas comedy 'Nativity!' in 2009. Most recently, he was Dr. John Watson in TV series 'Sherlock' and Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's Tolkien trilogy 'The Hobbit' in 2012.

Personal Life: Martin Freeman lives in Hertfordshire with his actress wife Amanda Abbington and his son and daughter. He loves Motown music and is a lifelong vegetarian.

Martin Freeman Admits Fan Pressure Has Ruined Enjoyment Doing 'Sherlock'

When 'Sherlock' hit screens all the way back in 2010, it became an instant success. Benedict Cumberbatch led the series in the titular role and impressed with his compelling performance, whilst Martin Freeman allowed for a little balancing of personality, bringing John Watson to life. Whilst this was a show based on the Arthur Conan Doyle novel series, it was a whole new beast in its own right.

Despite the love for the BBC series, there have only been a total of four seasons of 'Sherlock' in the almost eight years since it began, totalling just 15 episodes. It's a move that's been lauded by millions, so that the quality of the show remains at a high, but when season 4 made its debut there was a notable dip in ratings and critical response. Since then, there's not been much news in the way of getting any new episodes in the future, no matter how fervent the fan base can be in demanding them.

In the first teaser trailer for the forthcoming Marvel film we get our first glimpse of Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis in their respective roles of the Joint Counter Terrorism Center's Everett K. Ross and South African gangster (and the Black Panther's nemesis) Ulysses Klaue or Klaw.

Benedict Cumberbatch's Nose Nearly Cost Him 'Sherlock' Role

‘Sherlock’ writer and co-creator Mark Gatiss has revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch almost missed out on playing the detective, because he didn't have the right look.

Speaking to The Sunday People, Gatiss said Cumberbatch was originally thought of as “a sort of ginger weird person” and not sexy enough for the role.

Benedict Cumberbatch has reportedly called the police over ‘an obsessed fan’ who is said to have made several trips to the ‘Sherlock’ actor’s house, leaving red ribbons outside. The actor is said to have become concerned over the woman’s behaviour and she has now been issued with an official Police Information Notice (PIN) over harassment.

The Mirror reports that the woman left red ribbons outside Cumberbatch’s home on at least two occasions, leaving one tied to the star’s car and the other fastened to a window of the house. Cumberbatch lives in North London with his wife Sophie Hunter and the couple’s baby son.

J.R.R. Tolkien's Annotated Map Of Middle-Earth Goes On Sale

A map of Middle-Earth annotated by author J.R.R. Tolkien has gone up for sale, after being discovered in a copy of The Lord of the Rings, owned by illustrator Pauline Baynes. The map show that Hobbiton is on the same latitude as Oxford and also hints that the city of Minas Tirith was inspired by the Italian city of Ravenna.

The map was discovered loose in a copy of The Lord of the Rings, owned by illustrator Pauline Baynes. The illustrator is said to have had removed the map from another edition of the novel as she began work on her own colour Map of Middle-Earth for Tolkien.

'Sherlock' Christmas Special Becomes Global Event, As BBC Plans Cinema Screenings Around The World

This year’s Sherlock Christmas special is set to become a global event like never before, with the episode set to be screened in cinemas around the world. According to the Radio Times, the special episode will be shown in a number of countries including China, where the show has a massive fanbase.

While the full list of countries is not yet confirmed, the 90 minutes special will be shown in China, where over 98 million viewers reportedly watch the show illegal on platforms such as Youku.

A fanatic Benedict Cumberbatch devotee has been reported to the police by ‘Sherlock’ co-stars Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington after directing death threats against them online, claiming that they “giving him [Cumberbatch] a bad name”.

Abbington and Freeman, who appear in the BBC mystery drama together, contacted authorities after the anonymous fan posted a picture of a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, saying “Shall we start prepping for a possible funeral?”

The anonymous blogger also wrote: “Both Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington are starting to give Benedict and all his fans a bad name! They seriously just need to shut up and f****** die already!”

'Sherlock' Will Be More 'Polished' In Victorian Era, Says Steven Moffat

‘Sherlock’ showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch’s character will be a little different once he’s transported back to the Victorian era in the show’s upcoming Christmas special. Speaking during the TCA press tour on Saturday, the writer gave away precious few details about the episode which sees Sherlock and Watson back in Victorian London.

When asked how the new setting might change Sherlock’s character Moffat said, “Sherlock is a little more polished. He operates like a Victorian gentleman instead of a posh, rude man. He’s a lot less brattish.” But as for Dr Watson, being back in Victorian Britain will cause Martin Freeman’s character to be ‘more uptight’, according to Moffat.

The BBC has given ‘Sherlock’ fans a little taster of the series’ upcoming Victorian special, releasing a picture of its two stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman dressed in period costume.

The picture shows Cumberbatch in a pretty severe and smart-looking waistcoat and suit reclining in a leather armchair, while a moustachioed Freeman is leaning against the chair and standing up.
