Sir David Attenborough has aimed a broadside at fellow broadcaster Bear Grylls, accusing the survivalist of killing animals “just to get a shot”.

The veteran broadcaster, whose ‘Blue Planet II’ series recently received millions of viewers and a deluge of critical acclaim, hit out at Grylls in a new interview with The Sun this week.

In Grylls’ latest series ‘The Island’, animals such as pigs, crocodiles and turkeys were killed as parts of challenges. When asked for his views about these exploits, Attenborough replied: “We've never killed an animal… Bear Grylls will have to answer for himself. I wouldn't willingly kill an animal just to get a shot.”

He’s well known for putting celebrities through their paces in a bid to survive through extreme situations, but Bear Grylls has triggered an uproar by putting one of his own children in danger as part of a training exercise with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Last Thursday (August 6th), the 41 year old survivalist left his eldest son, 12 year old Jesse, temporarily marooned on a set of rocks of the coast of Abersoch, North Wales known as the ‘Half Tide Rocks’ to play the part of a stranded boy in need of rescue. He posted a picture to his Twitter account after the exercise was safely completed, and though he has since deleted it, it caused quite a controversy.

Kate Winslet has channelled the role that brought her to superstardom while taking part in a new TV show with Bear Grylls. Standing on the side of a Welsh cliff held up only by ropes and staring straight down vertically, the British actress couldn’t resist re-creating THAT famous scene from Titanic with Jack and Rose at the front of the ship.

“Jack, I feel like I’m flying!” she cried out, temporarily releasing her harnesses to throw her arms out to the side while being guided down a sheer mountain face in Snowdonia, Wales. The noted explorer reciprocated with impeccable timing, shouting back “Kate, do you trust me?”

For his latest stunt – not something you usually say about a survival expert – Bear Grylls abseiled down a seemingly on-fire Battersea Power Station, one of London’s most iconic buildings. But his special effects team were so…effective, they managed to alert the authorities who arrived to find a false alarm.

The London Fire Brigade said it was called at 19:50 BST and realised it was a false alarm on reaching the site. A fire service spokesman said: "We attended and as soon as we got there we realised it wasn't an incident for us. But we take every call seriously." (BBC)

It’s not only kids that can don the scout uniform and start collecting those elusive badges, you know; adults can too! Since Kate Middleton, 31, joined the Scouts last year, more than 2,800 new adult volunteers have joined up, representing the second biggest rise since 1986.

Chief Scout, TV star Bear Grylls, who was present as the pregnant Middleton honoured the achievements of hundreds of Scouts at Windsor Castle, said: "The Duchess is an incredible role model and she helps us show that Scouting's not just for boys. She's also such a generous volunteer and everyone is so excited to have her in the Scouting family. Many people have followed her lead and are getting involved and enjoying the adventure." 17-year-old Lee Craven, from Hook, Hampshire was one of the more adventurous scouts honoured at the event. He helped drag a friend from an icy canal after he fell in in the dark. Lee said: "I hooked my feet under a tree stump and tried to reach for his hand. It was pitch black but I managed to pull him to the side to safety. It was quite easy because of the adrenalin."

Last night, the Royal Premiere of the latest James Bond movie, Skyfall took place at London’s Royal Albert Hall. This year marks the 50^th anniversary of the first ever James Bond movie, so last night, the stars were out in force and the red carpet provided almost as much of a spectacle as the movie itself.

In the battle of the plunging necklines, Kelly Brook triumphed, despite fierce competition from Tamara Ecclestone. Kelly wore a glittering floor length dress; a classic design that would have looked fitting on any red carpet, for any Bond movie over the last half a century. She wore her loose and accessorised with a cream-coloured clutch bag and bold red lipstick, looking effortlessly glamorous. Ecclestone, meanwhile, stopped out in a daring, long – sleeved emerald green dress with subtle leopard print, with a neckline that sunk almost to her waistline. The result was certainly eye catching and may have had some people wondering which cost more... the dress, or the cleavage?

Six months after leaving the Discovery Channel, Bear Grylls has signed up to front a new reality show for NBC, titled 'Get Out Alive.' The fearless adventurer will host the show that features two teams attempting to survive in the wild, reports the Los Angeles Times.

NBC has given the green light to the series, ordering eight episodes and setting aside a prime-slot slot for next summer. In a statement announcing the deal, Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC, said, "To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature. He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits. These contestants are in for the ride of their lives!" Though the creative details of 'Get Out Alive' are yet to be revealed, it's likely the teams will be dropped in some remote spot in the Sahara or the Antarctic and forced to do whatever it takes to survive!

Though Grylls has established himself as a popular television personality, he arrives at NBC on the back of controversy. He raised eyebrows in 2006 when it emerged his show 'Man vs Wild' was misleading viewers about some of the situations in which Grylls found himself in. Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter reported how the Discovery Channel terminated his contract after he refused to participate in two projects he was contracted for.

Bear Grylls hasn't always had it easy in the United States, but the British explorer and survival expert is back on his feet again in the country after it was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that his new show Get Out Alive (a working title) will take on a reality format that will test two teams of people in what we presume is going to be a set of physical and endurance challenges surrounded by the harsh climes of nature. The Hollywood Reporter are describing it as a Survivor-style program and it's been picked up by NBC for eight episodes.

"To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature," Paul Telegdy, NBC alternative president, said in a statement. "He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits. These contestants are in for the ride of their lives!" Grylls added: "Get Out Alive will be raw, tough and unrelenting, but it will also inspire and teach the essentials that one day may just save your life. The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward... but first there must be some pain."

Grylls had been on the network Discovery since 2006 with his show . His relationship with them ended badly last March though after it was alleged he was taking too long getting working on two unannounced projects for them.
