Childhood: Kesha was born in LA with her singer mother Pebe. They had little money and she didn't know the identity of her father. She went to Franklin High School and Brentwood High School while co-writing demos with her mother. She is a global ambassador for animal rights organisation the Humane Society of the United States.
Career: At 16, Kesha and her mother's song 'Stephen' was produced by David Gamson and soon after she left school for the music industry on the advice of Dr. Luke and Max Martin. In 2005, she and her mother later took part in a reality series called 'The Simple Life' in which their house played host to Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. That year she signed to Dr. Luke's label Kemosabe Entertainment with one of her first professional ventures being featuring on Paris Hilton's 'Nothing in This World'. She later signed to DAS Communications Inc., during which time she co-wrote The Veronicas single 'This Love' and made her living as a waitress. In 2008, she was in Katy Perry's 'I Kissed a Girl' video and appeared in Britney Spears' 'Lace and Leather' song. Her breakthrough came with featuring on Flo Rida's 2009 single 'Right Round'. That year she signed to RCA Records and in 2010 she released her number one debut album 'Animal' which featured the singles 'Tik Tok', 'Your Love Is My Drug' and 'Blah Blah Blah' feat. 3OH!3. The song broke the record for biggest one week sales and was at number one for nine weeks. A lawsuit was later filed against her by DAS Communications Inc., who wanted $14 million from her and $12 million from producer Dr. Luke for commissions, suggesting that she was still affiliated with them. She failed a lawsuit against them in return, claiming that it was an unlicensed agent who had her signed to DAS. In 2010, she also joined Rihanna on her Last Girl On Earth Tour and released her Gold certified EP 'Cannibal' featuring the number one hit 'We R Who We R'. Her first headline world tour was entitled 'Get Sleazy' and kicked off in 2011. That year, Alice Cooper invited her to work on a track entitled 'What Baby Wants'. In 2013, fans began to get angry over Kesha's lack of control over her music, with Dr. Luke being at the helm of 'Warrior' - especially as her chart performance began to drop. However, he later produced Pitbull and Kesha's song 'Timber' which became a number one hit.
Personal Life: In 2014, Kesha underwent treatment in rehab for bulimia nervosa - a condition which allegedly arose out of Dr. Luke's comments about her weight. That year she sued the producer for a string of offences such as sexual assault and harassment and asked for their contract to be broken. He launched his own lawsuit against her for defamation.
