Late night talk show host Seth Meyers has banned Donald Trump from his show, in retaliation for the Republican presidential hopeful’s decision to ban the Washington Post from covering his campaign.

On Tuesday night’s edition of ‘Late Night’, host Meyers said that Trump had hit a “new low” for his remarks in the wake of the massacre that left 49 people dead and many more injured at a gay club in Orlando, Florida at the weekend.

“When it comes to bigotry, Trump keeps upping his game,” Meyers said. “He’s like if Joseph McCarthy was exposed to gamma radiation and became a racist orange Hulk with tiny hands. Hulk mad, hands too small to smash.”

Trump had taken the decision to bar the Washington Post from access to his presidential campaign trail earlier this week after headlines appeared in that publication – in addition to many others – slamming him for seeming to link President Obama to terrorist groups.

In the wake of the shootings, committed by a man named Omar Mateen, an American-born citizen whose parents came from Afghanistan and settled in New York in the ‘80s, Trump reiterated his stance that, as President, he “will suspend immigration from areas of the world where there’s a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies until we fully understand how to end these threats.”

He also drew criticism for saying “there’s something going on” when President Obama failed to mention “radical Islam” in his speech reacting to the atrocity.

“Well, you know, I’ll let people figure that out for themselves,” Trump said in reaction to the Post’s story, “[because] to be honest with you, there certainly doesn’t seem to be a lot anger or passion… when we want to demand retribution for what happened over the weekend.”

Meyers said: “Trump’s vague innuendo is no accident. This is a strategy he uses to try to appeal to the outer fringes while also avoiding accountability.”

He then spoke about Trump’s ban on the Post. “As for the Washington Post, we here at ‘Late Night’ believe in freedom of the press and therefore have decided to stand in solidarity with them. So as long as the Washington Post is banned from Donald Trump’s campaign, Donald Trump will be banned from ever coming on this show.” He then joked, “To be fair, he wasn’t coming on anyway. He had no interest in being here.”
