Kathy Griffin made it seven years in a row when she hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve special alongside anchor Anderson Cooper on New Year's Eve. In her previous seven appearances Kathy has been prone to the occasional piece of eccentricity and for her latest chance to ring in the new year, she was on arresting form again.

Griffin and Cooper brought the laughs once again

Griffin and Cooper have become a formidable team on New Years Eve and the 2013/14 celebration offered no exception to the rule, as the pair brought the laughs and cheer in abundance, but it was Griffin's own performance that stood out from the pack. In the past, Griffin has cursed on live television, stripped down to her undies, simulated sexual acts and more during her tenure with Cooper, prompting Cooper to take drastic measures this year.

The rant was seemingly sparked after creative difficulties with the sitcom Barr is creating for US network NBC with Nurse Jackie creator Linda Wallen arose. "I don't have the emotional stability to withstand being manipulated and lied to anymore-now that I'm old," Roseanne tweeted, referencing apparent difficulties she had in the development process for her new show.

It was a close call for the Aussie actor, who joins the likes of Eric Dane, Bruce Jenner, Ewan McGregor and Anderson Cooper, who have all shared their own brushes with cancer in the past.

"Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a [basal] cell carcinoma," the actor said in the caption for his pic. "Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!"

Anderson Cooper Replacing Matt Lauer? NBC Say NO

Matt Lauer Anderson Cooper

Speculation surrounding Matt Lauer’s future at NBC has been rife, with many publications suggesting that he’s either about to jump ship, or be replaced by Anderson Cooper. But NBC have moved to stamp out those rumours.

NBC executive Alexandra Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement, "As we've said before, Matt Lauer is the best in the business. We want him in the Today show anchor chair for many years to come. We are not considering replacing Matt Lauer." NBC do go out looking for new talent regularly, but the idea that Cooper is someone they’re looking at was also dismissed. “NBC News has many exploratory talks with talent inside and outside of the network, but to read anything specific into that is presumptuous,” said an NBC News executive. Lauer’s relationship with the NBC execs has been a mixed bag. He hit out at the dismissal of Ann Curry, but was criticised for signing a 2-year $25m contract while her future was in jeopardy. For the network, though, the slide in viewing figures will be their biggest concern.

Is Anderson Cooper Replacing Matt Lauer On The Today Show?

Anderson Cooper Matt Lauer

The changes at NBC just keep on coming – this time it’s Anderson Cooper coming in as the rumoured replacement for Today show host Matt Lauer. There have been conflicting reports of how Lauer himself is taking the change – according to Deadline, the host isn’t too happy about his chosen replacement, while TMZ claims that Lauer is behind Cooper’s appointment all the way. The site reports that Lauer has even planned a meeting with his replacement to discuss the change.

Once again, nothing is set in stone about this transition, as an NBC exec told TMZ that network officials were in "exploratory talks with talent inside and outside of the network. But to read anything specific into that is presumptuous." Whatever the change may be and whenever it may happen, it makes sense in the context of NBC’s plummeting ratings. The network has been replacing and switching around hosts all throughout their programs.

Anderson Cooper Being Primed For Matt Lauer’s Spot?

Matt Lauer Anderson Cooper

Matt Lauer’s future at NBC has been in some doubt for a while now, with controversy after controversy coming his way. His network aren’t totally dumb though, and they’re lining up Anderson Cooper to fill his boots, should they be made for walking.

Based primarily on hearsay, the story was first reported by Deadline. Despite Lauer attacking the decision to oust Ann Curry, he’s been blamed for her exit - his new two-year, $25m contract the security the network needed before making the push. But security is a short-lived thing in television, and with ratings on the slide, Lauer’s position is far from safe. So step in Anderson Cooper, the recent recipient of the Vito Russo Award, named after a Glaad (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) founder. Anderson is a popular presence on the box, and even more popular are his New Years Eve shows with Kathy Griffin, which could become a regular thing. If hearsay is to be believed, then a pilot has been filmed at Time Warner Center in New York. Of course, this would mean the end of Lauer on Today. NBC reportedly approached the host, seeking his blessing for the switch around, but, quite predictably, he wasn’t happy and even phoned Cooper to express his dismay.

Madonna Slams 'Stupid Boy Scouts' (Kisses Anderson Cooper For The Hell Of It)

Madonna Carly Rae Jepsen Train Anderson Cooper Brett Ratner

Madonna called on the Boy Scouts to lift its ban on gay members in a speech at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday night (March 23, 2013). Wearing a replica of the organization's uniform, the pop superstar said the scouts should "change their stupid rules," and allow gays to sign up. Her comments come shortly after Carly Rae Jepsen and Train pulled out of the organization's summer Jamboree over its discrimination. Replacements have yet to be announced.

Later in the speech, Madonna spoke about young people who take their own lives after suffering from bullying. As a mother of teenage kids, the singer said the situation is "an atrocity to me and I don't accept it." She also called on the star-studded audience to join her in a "revolution" to change the world, before smooching with gay television host Anderson Cooper after presenting him with GLAAD's 'Vito Russo' award. Cooper came out as gay last year.

Elsewhere, at the gay advocacy group's annual awards, film director Bret Ratner was honored with the Ally Award, despite joking that "rehearsing is for fags" at a press conference last year. The NBC drama 'Smash' and CBS's reality series 'The Amazing Race' also won prizes at the ceremony in New York.

Madonna showed up in typical style to the Glaad awards, sporting a boy scouts uniform, and bemoaning her lack of badges due to the fact she was never allowed in, before giving Anderson Cooper the Vito Russo Award.

"I wanted to be a Boy Scout, but they wouldn’t let me join," the singer joked. "I think that’s f---ed up. I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent. I have a very good sense of direction. I can rescue kittens from trees. Listen, I wanna do for the community," she added before stating: "I think I should be allowed to be allowed to be a Boy Scout. And I think they should change their stupid rules." Moving onto the state of equality, Madonna boomed: "I don't know about you, but I can't take this sh-- anymore," she said. "That is why I want to start a revolution. Are you with me? It's 2013, people. We live in America -- land of the free, home of the brave -- that's a question, not a statement." And moving on to Cooper’s award, she said:"Love thy neighbor as thyself. It's an atrocity to me, and I don't accept it," she added, talking about homophobia.
