Brandon Flowers' Family Prompt

Brandon Flowers The Killers The Cure Train

Brandon Flowers' brother has been encouraging him to record 'Run For Cover' for years.

The Killers frontman first penned the track - which is about the story of a senator who mistreats his wife - in 2008 when the group were recording their third album 'Day & Age' but he wasn't satisfied with his efforts and set it aside.

He admitted: ''I was never happy with the second verse -- so we put it on the backburner.''

Train's New Single 'Angel In Blue Jeans' - What's It Mean For The Upcoming Album?

Train

It won't be long until another one of Train's singles is stuck in your head again. After releasing their commercially acclaimed sixth studio album, California 37, the pop rock outfit toured the world backed by their smash hits such as 'Drive By' and ’50 Ways to Say Goodbye.’ With Train’s newest track hitting digital outlets this week, it’s adding yet another weapon to their elusive catalog. Slow, but steady, ‘Angel In Blue Jeans’ has all of the qualifications to lift these adult contemporary darlings back into the limelight, and it is the first taste that we have from the band’s upcoming record.

Pat Monahan Today ShowTrain's new album is out September 16

Train is set to unleash their new album, Bulletproof Picasso, on September 16 via Columbia Records. Though we don’t know too much about it yet, the first hint of a good sign is right there in the title, because honestly, what in the world does it even mean? But, what this does mean is that frontman Pat Monahan is up to his usual charm of nonsensical lyrics and themes in his songs. The lead single, ‘Angel in Blue Jeans,’ keeps that up as well, with lyrics about “getting shot down by an angel in blue jeans.” After being in the game as long as Monahan has, you figure he’d have run out of heartbreak to sing about, but as long as his misfortunes keep leading to great songs, we’re not complaining.

Madonna Slams 'Stupid Boy Scouts' (Kisses Anderson Cooper For The Hell Of It)

Madonna Carly Rae Jepsen Train Anderson Cooper Brett Ratner

Madonna called on the Boy Scouts to lift its ban on gay members in a speech at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday night (March 23, 2013). Wearing a replica of the organization's uniform, the pop superstar said the scouts should "change their stupid rules," and allow gays to sign up. Her comments come shortly after Carly Rae Jepsen and Train pulled out of the organization's summer Jamboree over its discrimination. Replacements have yet to be announced.

Later in the speech, Madonna spoke about young people who take their own lives after suffering from bullying. As a mother of teenage kids, the singer said the situation is "an atrocity to me and I don't accept it." She also called on the star-studded audience to join her in a "revolution" to change the world, before smooching with gay television host Anderson Cooper after presenting him with GLAAD's 'Vito Russo' award. Cooper came out as gay last year.

Elsewhere, at the gay advocacy group's annual awards, film director Bret Ratner was honored with the Ally Award, despite joking that "rehearsing is for fags" at a press conference last year. The NBC drama 'Smash' and CBS's reality series 'The Amazing Race' also won prizes at the ceremony in New York.

"Praying" For Change: Carly Rae Jepsen Explains Cancelling Show For 'Homophobic' Boy Scouts

Carly Rae Jepsen Train

The Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen has explained her motives behind pulling out of a planned performance at a Boy Scouts Jamboree. When she learned that the Boy Scouts organization banned gay people from joining, she no longer felt that it was an organization that she wished to support. Speaking to MTV News, Carly explained “It was sort of one of those things that I kind of have my opinions about, and everyone's entitled to their own, but it wasn't necessarily something that I felt comfortable backing once I learned more about it. Here's hoping they make the right decision and I'm praying that moves like this will help.”

A spokesperson for the Scouts insisted that they understand her decision to stick by her principles. “We appreciate everyone's right to express an opinion and remain focused on delivering a great Jamboree programme for our Scouts.” It looks as though they might struggle to get that high quality jamboree they’re after, though, as the second headliner, Train, has also cancelled their performance.

The ‘Call Me Maybe’ singer had previously agreed to perform at the annual National Boy Scouts jamboree but petitioners pleaded with her not show her support for the organization and made her aware of their homophobic membership policies. As a result, she cancelled the appearance, which was planned to take place in West Virginia in July.

Carly Rae Jepsen Cancels Boy Scouts Concert Over Outdated Homophobic Policies

Carly Rae Jepsen Train

Carly Rae Jepsen is refusing to perform at a Boy Scouts concert after learning that they have no intention of lifting their ban of gay men in the organisation.

The 'Call Me Maybe' singer took to Twitter to confirm the cancellation at the Boy Scouts of America National Scout Jamboree in Mount Hope, West Virginia in the summer, explaining: 'As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer'. She added that, 'I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe.'

California band Train were also due to perform, but hold similar views to the popstar. They wrote on their savemesanfrancisco.com blog, 'When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization' and they added that all though they respect the old organisation, they are strongly against such discrimination but are most definitely willing to appear at the Jamboree 'as long as they make the right decision before then'.

Ashley Monroe To Shine With Solo Effort 'Like A Rose'

Ashley Monroe Miranda Lambert Train

Ashley Monroe is finally here with her new album 'Like A Rose' which marks a milestone in the country singer's music career.

The Pistol Annies singer releases her new solo album 'Like A Rose' today (March 5th 2013) and told The Associated Press that, 'I'm just now learning that there is a master plan'. 'There's been many times where I've looked up at the sky and thought, 'Really? What am I doing? What am I supposed to be doing?' But now I'm seeing all the good and the bad that I've lived and experienced just kind of come together', she added. Her previous solo effort, album 'Satisfied' flopped badly though her other work with bandmate Miranda Lambert in Pistol Annies has been moderately successful since they formed in 2011 with their debut album 'Hell on Heels' topping the US Country chart.

The Pistol Annies are set to release their second album in the Spring of 2013, while Monroe is set to tour with the band Train after dueting with singer Pat Monahan on 'Bruises'. 'It's crazy', Monroe said of her career achievments. 'It blows my mind. But it also makes me happy because it's bringing all these things together.'

Girl Power At The 2012 American Music Awards: Nicki Minaj And Rihanna Lead The Way

Nicki Minaj Rihanna Justin Bieber Katy Perry Maroon 5 Drake Mariah Carey Adele Taylor Swift One Direction Kelly Clarkson Train Carrie Underwood Miranda Lambert Usher

Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are expected to clean up at the 2012 American Music Awards, with four nominations apiece, reports Reuters.

Rihanna is top of the table for the main category, as she wards off competition from Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Maroon 5 and Canadian rapper Drake for artist of the year. She’s also in line for female soul/R&B artist and best album, and will lock horns with Minaj for the female pop/rock artist category. Minaj could be recognized for her album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, in both the pop/rock and rap/hip hop categories this year, and she’s nominated for favorite rap artist, too. Minaj has been attracting extra attention recently; her very public feud with Mariah Carey on American Idol culminated in a strange gun threat, but most seem sure the ‘diva-off’ is being played up by Fox to boost the talent show’s viewership.

Elsewhere in the awards, teenage singer Bieber landed three nominations this year, tying with British boy band One Direction, Maroon 5, Drake and R&B star Usher. Adele and Taylor Swift – who dominated the awards last year - received one nomination apiece. Swift will fight for female country artist against Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, while Adele was nominated in the favorite adult contemporary artist category alongside Kelly Clarkson and Train. The AMA’s - which will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year - are determined by fans through online voting, which starts on Tuesday. The ceremony and performance show will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on November 18.

Train, Save Me, San Francisco Album Review

Returning after a three year hiatus, Train's fifth studio album was released last year in America and now gets a push in other markets. The band are perhaps best known for their 2001 hit 'Drops Of Jupiter', which landed them two Grammy Awards and has helped them retain a fanbase that allows for the world tour they are currently playing.

Whilst it is with MOR balladry that Train have found their past success, the record begins in fun rock'n'roll style with the title track, a fun romp that can easily be danced and sang to. The ballads come in great numbers though and it's due to the sentimental vocals of Pat Monahan that they don't become clichéd. 'This Ain't Goodbye' is a fine example of how not to over blow a soft rock anthem, while 'Parachute' could light up a stadium quite comfortably. A soulful side is explored by 'Words' and it is only really with 'Brick By Brick' that the trio really lose their way. Stepping away from their comfort zone bears mixed results, 'Breakfast In Bed' best described as confusing, but 'If It's Love' captures a genuine happiness with a celebratory sound.

The inclusion of a live version of the afore-mentioned ubiquitous 'Drops Of Jupiter' serves to overshadow many of the songs though, even with it not being a great recording, with nothing getting near the same standard. Still, fans of the band should be pleased as it very much seems that Train have picked up where they left off.
