B.B. King’s Death Not The Result Of Poisoning, Coroner Confirms

B.B. King’s death was not the result of poison, a Nevada coroner confirmed on Monday (13th July). The legendary Blues singer died in May of this year and, shortly after King’s death, his two daughters accused his manager and personal assistant of poisoning him. The coroner has performed an autopsy and found no evidence of poison.

Two of B.B King's daughters have alleged that their father was poisoned by the musician's business manager Laverne Toney and his personal assistant. King, 89, died on May 14 at his home in Las Vegas with his attorney saying the blues singer died peacefully in his sleep.

"I believe my father was poisoned and that he was administrated foreign substances to induce his premature death," the daughters wrote in separate but identical affidavits. "[I] request a formal investigation into this matter."

Tributes from the wold of music and beyond have poured in for blues legend B.B. King who died on Thursday in Las Vegas aged 89. King will be remembered as one of the pioneers of blues music as well as for his trademark guitar playing style, which has influenced generations of musicians.

King’s longtime friend, Chicago blues guitarist Buddy Guy led the tributes with a heartfelt message posted on his Instagram page. “This morning, I come to you all with a heavy heart,” he wrote. “Bb King was the greatest guy I ever met. The tone he got out of that guitar, the way he shook his left wrist, the way he squeezed the strings… man, he came out with that and it was all new to the whole guitar playin’ world."

King, 89, died in Las Vegas, his attorney announced late Thursday, according to the Associated Press. The sad news came less than two weeks after King's manager stated the guitarist was on the mend after his most recent hospital stay.

The Blues legend Bb King has died in Las Vegas aged 89, his lawyer has confirmed. Brent Bryson told the Associated Press that King died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Thursday (May 14, 2014).

BB King's Manager Reassures Fans After Guitarist's Hospital Leave

Jazz master Bb King remains in hospice care for the third day this Sunday. On Saturday, his longtime business manager, Laverne Toney released a statement, saying the iconic musician had a good night and she welcomed the concern about his health. Toney has legal control over King’s affairs.

Due to declining health, BB King has been forced to cancel several performances in the past year.

On Friday, the jazzman returned home after his second hospital stay in two months. In a message on his website, King made sure to thank his fans in a statement, posted on his official site.

Legendary blues guitarist Bb King is in home hospice care at his Las Vegas residency, according to a message on his official website. King returned home Friday after a brief hospitalisation on Thursday, his second hospital stay in less than a month.

“I am in home hospice care at my residence in Las Vegas,” King wrote in a message on his personal website. “Thanks to all for your well wishes and prayers.” King’s daughter Patty had told KLAS Las Vegas News that her father wasn't eating and was dehydrated, so he was taken to the hospital for observation around 3 p.m.

The 'Turn On Your Love Light' star, also known as Bobby "Blues" Bland and "The Lion of the Blues", was extremely influential in the blues genre, establishing a unique sound that incorporating gospel-influenced singing into blues and R&B. Robert Calvin Bland was born in 1930 in Rosemark, Tennessee, and later moved to Memphis where he would join gospel groups and frequent Beale Street with its reputation for blues clubs. His career as a singer was temporarily put on hold after serving a stint in the US army, but he fell back into the music scene upon his return. He hit his No.1 spot on the R&B charts with his 1957 single 'Further On Up The Road' and continued to feature in the charts in the late fifties and sixties. He emerged as a unique blues singer with a characteristic vocal style, described by biographers as a "supple, confidential, soul-blues delivery" that would become known as a "chicken-bone sound", characterised by "guttural growls and snorts" whilst retaining a "smooth as velvet quality."

Eric Clapton, BB King and John Mayer were among some of genius performers at Clapton's fourth Crossroads Guitar Festival last weekend.

It was a blues infused weekend at Eric Clapton's fourth tri-annual Crossroads Guitar Festival on April 12th - 13th 2013 at Madison Square Garden, New York with guests ranging from the legends, to the more modern performers of the genre. 68-year-old Clapton, who remains to be the only three-time inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, was seen enjoying a jam session with the King of blues BB King, 87, while John Mayer teamed with country star Keith Urban to show that there was little to sneer at with modern blues-pop. 'The Blues Brothers' star Dan Aykroyd, also made an appearance in a pair of Ray-Bans and a suit reminiscent of the 1980 movie, as well as Texan guitarist Gary Clark Jr. with his band and 76-year-old former Muddy Waters member Buddy Guy.
