B.B. King’s death was not the result of poison, a Nevada coroner confirmed on Monday (13th July). The legendary Blues singer died in May of this year and, shortly after King’s death, his two daughters accused his manager and personal assistant of poisoning him. The coroner has performed an autopsy and found no evidence of poison.

King died at the age of 89 in a hospice in Las Vegas. He had been unwell for more than a year and was forced to cancel his 2014 tour as a result. The coroner, speaking to CNN, explained King had a number of illnesses which contributed to his death. These included: artery atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease. 

"We ruled it Alzheimer's disease as the cause of death with other significant contributing factors," coroner John Fudenberg told CNN. 

King had 15 children and 11 of them survive him. According to reports, there is some contention over King’s estate and his children are attempting to gain control from those he placed in charge including his business manager, LaVerne Toney. 

Two of King’s children, Patty King and Karen Williams, have claimed their father was poisoned. 

"I believe my father was poisoned and that he was administered foreign substances to induce his premature death. I believe my father was murdered,” the two women said in their separate affidavits. 

Patty King, Karen Williams have accused Toney of elder abuse and neglect. This is not the first time Toney has faced the accusation as, earlier this year, the two women and their sister Rita Washington took Toney to court. The case was dismissed for lack of evidence. 

King’s case has now been closed by a coroner and no further investigations have been ordered.
