In a busy year that has seen John Krasinski star in movies and TV shows, he somehow managed to find the time to direct, produce and star in the new family comedy-drama The Hollars.
In the story, he plays an aspiring graphic novelist who returns to his hometown when his mother (Margo Martindale) falls ill, leaving his pregnant girlfriend (Anna Kendrick) in New York. He first came to the project as an actor.
"I don't think I've ever signed onto anything as quickly as I did this one," he says, "because I come from a really loving, well-connected family. This is obviously a very dysfunctional family, but there was something about it that was sort of universal. It's nice to tell stories about things as simple and powerful as family. In real life, you don't have time to prepare for the bad stuff and you don't have time to prepare for the good stuff, it just sort of happens."

Don and Sally Hollars' family are all grown up and they live alone. They have two sons and John lives in New York at works as an artist attempting to make a name for himself. Their other son, Ron lives closer to home and up until recently lived with his wife and their young family but now his marriage has fallen to pieces and he's alone.
When Sally falls ill, the family reunites and John leaves his heavily pregnant girlfriend, Rebecca, in the city whilst he pays a visit to the family home. Once back in the small town he grew up in, it seems the family matriarch is much more ill than they all first presumed.
Spending time in hospital, John is quickly submerged into his old family and all the issues that comes with them - not only that but he must deal with his ex-girlfriends new partner who's also his mother's nurse.

John Krasinski is making a big return to the small screen as the prestigious spy Jack Ryan in a newly green-lit series for Amazon, it has been confirmed.
The 36 year old American actor is to follow in the footsteps of some extremely high-profile actors in portraying Tom Clancy’s ex-Marine turned CIA analyst, including Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.
According to a press release from Amazon obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the new 10-part series imagines Ryan as “an up-and-coming C.I.A. analyst thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time.”

36 year old actor Krasinski, formerly a star of the American version of ‘The Office’, revealed the news on Monday afternoon (July 4th) via Twitter, and it turns out that they had actually welcomed their second daughter two weeks ago, and have kept it quiet from the media.
“What better way to celebrate the 4th… than to announce our 4th family member!!! 2 weeks ago we met our beautiful daughter Violet #Happy4th” he wrote.

Not the subtlest director working in Hollywood, Michael Bay brings his surging machismo to this retelling of the notorious attack on an American compound in Libya on the anniversary of 9/11 in 2012. As always, Bay stages the action on a big scale in a way that looks amazing, but he neglects both the story and the characters. As a result, the film feels epic and beefy, but is impossible to engage with.
It opens as a team of hired soldiers assembles at a secret CIA base in Benghazi. Jack (John Krasinski) is the newest arrival, joining his old pal Rone (James Badge Dale) and four more tough guys (Pablo Schreiber, David Denman, Dominic Fumusa and Max Martini). Meanwhile just up the road, the American Ambassador (Matt Letscher) is staying in a rather unsecure compound with not quite enough security, despite stern warnings from Washington that trouble is brewing. Sure enough, as night falls a local jihadist militia launches a violent, fiery assault. The CIA base chief (David Costabile) tells his men not to join the fight, but of course they can't resist the chance to charge in and save the day.
Over a long and bludgeoning two and a half hours, Bay carefully recreates this long, vicious night of fighting, as the situation continually twists out of control. The best thing about the film is the way it depicts how difficult it was to know which locals were on which side, but even this is simplified in Chuck Hogan's script. Everyone on-screen is interchangeable as either a bewildered nerd or a fierce warrior, and the only one in between is by far the film's strongest character: Peyman Moaadi's translator, who gets pushed right into the middle of the nightmare. In the few quiet moments, there are clumsy attempts to give these manly men some back-story, but it's the same for everyone: former black ops soldier with a wife and kids back home.

The 'Sicario' star is pregnant with her second child, a younger sibling for 23 month old daughter Hazel.
Emily Blunt is expecting her second child with her husband, John Krasinski, her representative has confirmed.
The 32 year old British-born actress, who married her actor husband in Italy in 2010, gave birth to their daughter Hazel back in February 2014. A rep for her confirmed the pregnancy news to Us Weekly on Tuesday (January 26th).
Blunt is currently in New York City on the set of her new movie The Girl on the Train, adapted from Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel of the same name. She was spotted wearing a rather large overcoat last week, triggering rumours that she might be expecting once again.

Congratulations to the two pairs of new parents, who welcomed little ones over the weekend in Hollywood. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski and Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman have all come out of the weekend with a brand new, healthy baby, and both kids can share in the misfortune of celebrating a birthday around Valentine’s Day.
Silverman was discharged from Lenox Hill in New York on Sunday.
Eric, Cowell’s two day old baby boy was born on the exact date, with his parents announcing the news on Saturday and posting the very first pictures of their new son as early as Sunday. Cowell first shared a message letting his followers know that everything had gone smoothly: “Very happy to say Eric was born at 17.45pm. Healthy and handsome.” Then, two days later, the first baby photos – in black and white, of the baby sound asleep – were posted. Early on Monday, Cowell gave another status update, writing: “The last three days have been incredible. Eric Lauren sqiddly and diddly all happy.”

George Clooney has revealed his obsession for sending cards and letters supposedly from his celebrity pals, all began in 2010 at John Krasinski's wedding. The reveal came in light of Matt Damon's discovery that the 'Ocean's Eleven' actor had been posting stationary with his name on to various people in and around Hollywood, yet apparently, Brad Pitt was the first person to fall victim to the practical joke.

Hydraulic fracturing might not be the most compelling subject for a movie, but it provides a topical backdrop for this engaging drama about ethics. It also lets actor-screenwriter Damon reunite with his Good Will Hunting director Van Sant for another strikingly well-made movie centring around a handful of strong characters. And while we know what the filmmakers feel about this contentious issue, at least the script isn't heavy handed about it.
The story takes place in a rural New England town, where oil company workers Steve and Sue (Damon and McDormand) are trying to secure the leases needed to drill for natural gas. The farmers badly need the cash to keep in business, but a retired science teacher (Holbrook) voices concern about the potential dangers of "fracking". He's joined by environmental activist Dustin (Krasinski) to turn the town against Steve and Sue's multinational corporation. And Dustin even starts to meddle in a budding romance between Steve and local teacher Alice (DeWitt).
The script is cleverly constructed to make us wonder who is telling the full truth. There are obviously risks associated with fracking, but have they been exaggerated by politically motivated campaigns? Damon plays Steve as a straight-arrow, a nice guy who genuinely believes that the process is safe. Meanwhile, Krasinski is a but more slippery as the grassroots voice of caution, and the terrific McDormand gets all the best lines.

Marvel's sci-fi adventure Guardians of the Galaxy has finally cast its lead actor, and it seems a pretty solid choice in fairness. Chris Pratt, of Parks and Recreation fame, will play Star-Lord Peter Quill, who finds himself in the middle of a universal conflict in space before going on the run with futuristic ex-cons. There's been plenty of incarnations of the Guardians team in Marvel's comics and the movie will include various well-known characters including Drax The Destroyer, giant tree-man Groot, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora.
It's been a pretty lengthy casting process, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt offered the role at some point, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Jim Sturgess, Zachary Levi, John Krasinski and Michael Rosenbaum are among the actors who met with Marvel or were screen-tested. Attention now turns to the casting of Drax the Destroyer, the supporting character in the movie. Reports suggest WWE wrestler Dave Bautista, Isaiah Mustafa (The Old Spice Guy) and Brian Patrick Wade have all been in talks.
The movie is schedule for a release on August 1, 2014. Pratt is likely to do a great job as Peter Quill, having shown considerable ability in his serious roles, Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty.

In a recent interview with Reuters, Matt Damon insisted that the Gus van Sant-directed Promised Land is not a political movie intended to sway viewers, but merely a starting point for discussion.
The movie tells the story of land owners, corporate salesman and environmental campaigning, with the political issue of ‘fracking’ (drilling for natural gas) at the centre of the story. The screenplay was written by the film’s stars, Matt Damon and John Krasinski, adapted from a book by Dave Eggers.
“The point is that the movie should start a conversation. It's certainly not a pro-fracking movie, but we didn't want to tell people what to think… Fracking' was perfect because the stakes are so incredibly high and people are so divided. It asks all the questions about short-term thinking versus long-term thinking.” A review from Ohio.com, though, takes the view that Promised Land is, very much, attempting to sway its viewers.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Django Unchained are riding high at the top of the US box office charts and as the movie industry lurches slowly into the new year, it’s likely that they’ll remain there. After all, an unsolicited addition to the Texas Chainsaw collection is hardly going to have the pulling power to shift some of the biggest movies of last year off the top of that chart.
That, however, is one of the biggest movies of the week: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. That’s right. An extra dimension has been added to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre story. No, we’re not sure why, either. The phrase “let’s leave well alone, shall we?” springs to mind. The horror genre was just fine and dandy with the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the other Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and... okay all you need to know is that there are already seven of these movies.. but hey, now we have one in 3D, so that, presumably, you can fear not only for the safety of the characters onscreen, but also for the integrity of your own eyeballs, as chainsaw after chainsaw comes flying out of the screen and straight towards your face.
In a classic game of paper, scissors, stone, it becomes quickly apparent that ‘chainsaw’ beats ‘wooden door’ as good old Leatherface wreaks havoc with his favourite power tool once more. Unsurprisingly, it has been met with a tired response, with one reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes describing the film as a “giant turd of a movie.” So, probably not bound for big bucks box office success, then. Bound to divide audiences this one. Divide them between ‘Don’t really like it’ and ‘Really don’t like it,’ that is.

Matt Damon gets political in his new movie Promised Land, which tackles the issue of ‘fracking,’ the process of hydraulic fractured drilling, which has been at the root of great political debate in the US for some time. Its effects on drinking water and the debate surrounding energy use is a controversial one and has been gaining notoriety. The arrival of Promised Land will inevitably bring that debate to the awareness of even more American citizens.
In an interview with Reuters, though Damon was not prepared to weigh in on either side of the environmental debate. "The point is that the movie should start a conversation. It's certainly not a pro-fracking movie, but we didn't want to tell people what to think.” Damon also said that whilst the issue of fracking was at the centre of the story. “It wasn't that we said we wanted to make a movie about 'fracking' as much as we wanted to make a movie about American identity, about real people. We wanted to make a movie about the country today, where we came from, where we are and where we are headed.”
Promised Land also stars Frances McDormand and John Krasinski (possibly best known for his role in the US version of The Office) and is scheduled for release in April 2013.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have always seemingly done everything as a pair, and the trend has continued with Damon releasing his new flick Promised Land right on the heels of Affleck’s Argo.
As you might expect, Damon, who is no stranger to screenwriting, most notably with the critical success Good Will Hunting, is putting in the effort with this one as well. The film, due to be released in April of 2013, is co-written by him and Dave Krasinski. Interestingly enough however, unlike partner-in-crime Ben Affleck, Damon did not manage to get in to the director’s chair for his most recent project, New York Daily News reports and instead the job went to big name director Gus Van Sant. Of course, the famed director has had some hits and misses in his day (Remember Paranoid Park? Yeah, neither do we), but teaming up with Damon has always seemed to work in the part. Not to mention that according to Krasinski, the fact that Van Sant signed on to direct at the last minute was what ultimately saved the project, after good old Matt had to step down due to a scheduling conflict.
The film itself is in the increasingly popular of late “social awareness” genre and stars Damon as an employee of a natural gas drilling company and Krasinski as the guy, trying to stop him from having his evil, corporate way with the beautiful nature of rural Pennsilvania. Either way, even if the premise doesn’t sound quite groundbreaking, this writer/director team has proven that they have it in them to make a solid memorable movie. And with so much early hype, it looks like Promised Land will be one of the biggies in 2013.

Promised Land is directed by Gus Van Sant and focuses on the tale of a natural gas company salesman – played by Damon – attempt to purchase land in a small town, with environmental activist (Krasinski) standing in his way. Talking about their aims for the project, Damon commented: “The temptation is to make something that you’ve never done before, for both of us.” He added, “John had never had a chance to play the kind of role he has in his movie and we were both able to use the baggage we both brought into the project to kind of try to confound expectations a little bit.”
It’s Krasinski’s first script, and he said he took inspiration from his dad, who grew up in a town outside of Pittsburgh that had fallen on hard times. “I remember being a very ignorant kid and saying ‘does that mean your childhood was awful?’ and he said ‘no it was phenomenal we had a strong sense of community and we were there for each other” the writer said. “I wanted to tell a story about a community like that.” And how about disagreements between the two writers? Did Damon just whack out his Oscar? “I wasn’t that obvious, I just wore it as a necklace” he cracked.

Steve Butler is a successful businessman as part of a natural gas company who wishes to close down failing farming communities in order to obtain resources. He and his business partner Sue Thomason go to visit a particular town that is suffering a lot in the economic crisis in the hope that it will be easy to get drilling rights for the farmers' land in order to gain important resources through hydraulic fracturing, more commonly known as 'fracking'. Things do seem easy at first, with his proposition providing some hope of economic relief for many members of the community, however he is soon challenged when a highly regarded teacher from the school and a determined grassroots campaigner object to the proposal and go about trying to get the rest of the town to vote against it.
'Promised Land' is a particularly appropriate film for the current economic climate and raises important issues that are of real concern to many. It has been directed by Gus Van Sant ('Good Will Hunting', 'Milk', 'Paris, je t'aime'), written by the movie's stars John Krasinski and Oscar winner Matt Damon (writer of 'Good Will Hunting') and based on a story by Dave Eggers ('Away We Go', 'Where the Wild Things Are') and is set to hit screens in the UK next year on April 19th 2013.

In 1988 Barrow, at the top of Alaska, aspiring reporter Adam (Krasinski) stumbles across three whales trapped beneath the icecap. Unable to reach the open sea, there's just a tiny hole in the ice that lets them breathe. Adam's report goes viral, grabbing the attention of America's press as well as his Greenpeace-activist ex Rachel (Barrymore). And the rescue effort will require an L.A. journalist (Bell), military pilot (Mulroney), Inuit boy (Sweeney), whale expert (Nelson), oil baron (Danson), White House rep (Shaw), two chuckleheads from Minnesota (LeGros and Riggle) and the Russian Navy.

News reporter Adam Carlson is based in a remote part of Alaska, in a town called Point Barrow. As a consequence, there usually is little to talk about in the way of local news. After one news report, which saw him explaining how food can take up to four plane journeys to arrive in town, his boss rings to comment about how 'thin' his stories are. That is, until Adam sees something extraordinary out to sea. It transpires that there are three California gray whales stuck under the ice near Point Barrow. Adam captures the incident on his camera and rings his boss to tell him of his findings.
Adam's report on the whales makes it onto the news, where he tells stunned viewers that the ice the whales are trapped under extends five miles to the ocean. No one is more stunned than Rachel Kramer, a Greenpeace activist and Adam's ex-girlfriend. She rings him up to announce that she will help him rescue the whales. Soon enough, Adam not only has the support of his ex but of the entire town as well, all doing what they can to make a path to the ocean through the ice. Adam and Rachel soon find themselves united under a common goal and they slowly start to fall back in love again.
