Mariska Hargitay (born January 23rd 1964) Mariska Hargitay is a TV star who played Olivia Benson in 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'.
Acting career: Mariska Hargitay's film debut was 1985 horror 'Ghoulies' and the following year hit television with crime drama 'Downtown'. She also had a stint on the soap 'Falcon Crest', in 1992's 'Tequila and Bonetti' and an episode of 'Seinfeld'. Other TV shows she has appeared in are 'ER', 'Baywatch' and 'Gabriel's Fire'.
She was cast in 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' in 1999 with Christopher Meloni, and even made her directorial debut in one episode of the show in 2014.
Personal life: Mariska Hargitay was raised in Santa Monica, California with her actress mother Jayne Mansfield and Mr. Universe father Mickey Hargitay. They divorced in 1963 before re-uniting and separating once more. Jayne died in a car crash when Hargitay was 3.
She grew up a Roman Catholic and went to Marymount High School, then UCLA. She then became Miss Beverly Hills USA before moving on to UCLA School of Theater Film and Television.
Hargitay can speak five languages.
She married Peter Hermann in 2004, with whom she has a son named Miklos and two adopted children named Amaya and Andrew.
In 2008, she had to have surgrey for a collapsed lung during a TV stunt. She was hospitalized for related reasons the following year.
