Nelly's 'Hot In Herre' Played Over And Over As Radio Station Market Their Rebranding

Nelly

It all started at 3pm on Friday afternoon (March 14). Nelly’s popular track, ‘Hot in Herre” started playing – a nice little 3pm treat, many listeners would have thought to themselves. But this was part of something far more cynical. The song has been played on a constant loop as part of a marketing campaign, which will see Latino Mix FM 105.7 rebranded as Hot 105.7.

NellyIs Nelly getting some unexpected publicity?

We checked and it’s still playing right now. Based on some simple and potentially flawed maths, it’s been playing for around 70 hours, which would make the total number of plays – considering the song is around 4 minutes long – 1050. They’ve played Nelly’s Hot in Herre one thousand and fifty times. Approximately.

Run the World, Girls: In 2013, Beyonce will attempt to succeed where many before her have failed spectacularly: by putting on a decent Super Bowl half time show. With advertisers paying up to $3.5 million for a thirty second ad, and over 160 million Americans tuning in, the Super Bowl really is the greatest show on earth, and it just got greater.

The Fox and the Child: Congratulations to Megan Fox and husband Brian Austin Green who welcomed their first child Noah in September. The Transformers shared the news with Facebook followers this week, thanking God for allowing her to "know this kind of boundless, immaculate love."

K-Patz's Cornish Cottage: All we can say is good luck to Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who seem to think moving to a quaint cottage in Cornwall is the best way to fix their ailing relationship. Perhaps they'll thrash out their differences over a Cornish pasty?

Albums of Note... That 'difficult second album' phase is probably even more difficult when - in between your first and second album - you have performed at the Royal wedding, had your songs splashed all over the TV, dumped one of the UK's best-known radio DJs (Greg James) and started dating one of the United States' best-known producers (Skrillex). Ellie Goulding seems to have done a solid job of navigating the pressures of retaining her identity, whilst no doubt being squeezed by her record label. Overall though, Halcyonis not quite the blast of personality that we expected from Goulding: "The most disappointing thing is that they've not even really allowed Goulding's voice to flourish. She has a vocal that's pleasant if not exactly stand out, but all life in it's been stamped out through auto-tuning and correction, the singer sounding as though she's being possessed by the spirit of nothing at all."

A Week in Music - October 16, 2012

Tall Ships are beginning to gather serious momentum on the live circuit in the UK and their debut album, Everything Touching cements that reputation. It's by no means a perfect debut but Tall Ships are already breaking free of the 'math rock' parameters that have been loosely placed about them. "The majority of the ten tracks are instrumentally intense with sounds overlapping and complimenting each other. An intriguing debut from Tall Ships, but there's just a spark missing. They should cut down on the instrumentals and replace with some words because, when they're used, the science and instrumental beauty are amplified perfectly."

Nelly Claims To Know Nothing Of No Heroin!

Nelly Armie Hammer Willie Nelson

Rapper Nelly is making it crystal clear that he had no idea his bus was carrying heroin when it was searched by Sierra Blanca police in Texas this week. Authorities seized 10 pounds of weed, a loaded .45 caliber pistol and 36 baggies of heroin after a surprise drug bust on the tour bus.

According to TMZ.com, passenger Brian Keith Jones admitted the drugs and weapon were both his and was subsequently arrested on the scene. Nelly said in a statement, "It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning." He added, "Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual." Strangely, Nelly still maintains that the drugs were in fact Molly, aka pure ecstasy, despite law enforcement sources confirming that it was most certainly heroin after field tests.

The rapper and his crew were the latest stars to be busted at the checkpoint in Texas, with Willie Nelson famously stopped in 2010 and found to be in possession of six ounces of marijuana. It didn't come as a huge surprise given the country star is a long-time advocate of the drug, though perhaps more surprising was actor Armie Hammer's arrest for weed, marijuana cookies and a brownie.

Rapper Nelly escaped the long arm of the law after a police raid of his tour bus allegedly found heroin, weed and a loaded gun on board, TMZ report.

According to Texas law enforcement sources, Nelly's bus was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca last night (October 11, 2012), where a police canine detected the presence of drugs. When the officers inspected the bus, they not only found a massive stash of weed, said to weigh around 10 lbs., but also came across a 36 small bags of heroin (totalling .64 ounces) and a loaded pistol.

Nelly and six other people were all detained after the search, but six of them – including the rapper – were allowed to go after one of the passenger, named Brian Keith Jones, admitted that the whole stash and the gun belonged to him. He was subsequently detained by the police is expected to still be in their custody. So far, Nelly’s PR team have not made any comment on the situation, despite being contacted a number of times since the news broke.

Nelly's Whole New Dilemma As His House Is Raided, Drugs Seized

Nelly Willie Nelson Snoop Dogg

Nelly, the multi-platinum selling rapper with a trademark band-aid on his cheek has had his tour bus raided by police, where they found heroin, a loaded gun and a huge amount of weed, so reports TMZ.com. Nelly was subsequently detained by police in Texas.

The bus was stopped for a routine check at a stop point in Sierra Blanca, and sniffer dogs were used to root out the contraband material. Apparently, according to law enforcement sources, 0.64 ounces of heroin were found in 36 different bags and over ten pounds of marijuana in a 'large green duffel bag'. There were 7 people on board the bus at the time of the rain, all of whom were detained during the search, but have since been let go after a man named Brian Keith Jones admitted to sole possession of the drugs and gun.

The Sierra Blanca checkpoint is a notorious place for celebs to be busted for drugs, most famously Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg. And being just 30 miles from the Mexican border the entire area is rife with drug smuggling.

Nelly, 5.0 Album Review

Guess who's been top of the Billboard charts more than any other rap group or artist? It isn't Tupac, or Eminem, or Lil Wayne. It isn't Outkast. It isn't, despite the hullabaloo surrounding his new record, Kanye. The answer, as close observers of this review's subject matter may already have guessed, is Nelly. Nelly! The guy who did 'Country Grammar (Hot...)', 'Hot in Herre', 'Dilemma', and then...not much of note. Despite more or less slipping off the pop culture radar recently, and despite seeing each new release receive distinctly ambivalent reviews, Nelly recently hit number one again in America with 5.0's first single, 'Just A Dream'. It was his fifth number one, a statistic which seems faintly ridiculous when you consider how low his profile is compared to many of his contemporaries. He's very rarely grabbed headlines for doing outrageous things. He's just continued to exist and continued to make ridiculously popular music.
