Power Rangers - Featurette, Clip Trailer

Zack Taylor (Ludi Lin), Kimberly Hart (Naomi Scott), Billy Cranston (RJ Cyler), Trini (Becky G) and Jason Lee Scott (Dacre Montgomery) are five kids with a lot in common; they're all high-schoolers with pretty screwed up lives and going through a lot of the kind of problems that regular teenagers go through. That is until one day, when they stumble across what looks like a long-abandoned spaceship which they somehow manage to accidentally open. Once inside the ship, it soon becomes clear that they are not alone and are very much trapped. It's not the most friendly welcome to their new master as they could have, but they soon realise that Zordon and his robot minion Alpha 5 mean no harm.

In fact, they have chosen these very kids to unite together and become their Power Rangers; superheroes on which the world depends. Of course, they don't believe that they really have super powers at first, but after a series of minor incidents, they are forced to accept their newfound destiny - and quickly because a deadly force is already on the rise led by the dastardly Rita Repulsa.

'Power Rangers' (sometimes known as 'Saban's Power Rangers') is the third and newest movie from the superhero franchise, coming 22 years after 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie'. It has been directed by by Dean Israelite ('Project Almanac') with a screenplay written by the Academy Award nominated John Gatins ('Flight', 'Real Steel'), and it is set to be released in theatres on March 24th 2017.

Power Rangers Trailer

Kimberly Hart, Trini, Jason Lee Scott, Zack Taylor and Billy Cranston are a group of high school kids from Angel Grove who all have their own problems. They are misfits who all find themselves thrust together as a team when they discover some mysterious artifacts that transform them into glowing, uber strong super heroes. Their discovery leads them to Zordon; an ancient being who now survives only as part of the Morphin Grid, and who reveals to them that they have been chosen as this generation's Power Rangers. Together, and with a little help from Zordon's faithful android Alpha 5, they must use their powers and their disguises to save the world from whatever adversary that may lay ahead - unfortunately for them, that comes sooner than anticipated with the villainous villainess Rita Repulsa who threatens to bring them all down. Are these new Rangers equipped to handle their first alien threat?

'Conan' Explores Just How Funny The Han Solo Auditions Could Have Been

Star Wars Bill Hader Melissa McCarthy

The role of a young Han Solo has got to have been the most coveted part known to Hollywood, even taking James Bond into account, so it's difficult to imagine what the auditions might have been like. Luckily for us, we don't have to imagine because the latest 'Conan' sketch has done that for us.

Melissa McCarthyMelissa McCarthy auditions for Han Solo on 'Conan'

Ultimately, it was 26-year-old Alden Ehrenreich who landed the part of Han Solo, taking over from Harrison Ford for a new stand-alone 'Star Wars' film due to be screened in 2018. We know that the likes of Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Scott Eastwood, Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor all auditioned and subsequently lost out, but a new skit on TBS' 'Conan' shows us just how funny it could've been with it's own series of potential auditionees.

The BFG Review

Very Good

For his adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic, Steven Spielberg reunited with screenwriter Melissa Mathison, with whom he made E.T. nearly 35 years ago. Another story of an unlikely friendship, this film is even more wondrous and earnest, and also much more reliant on effects. But it's also hugely involving, with a terrific cast and of course a delightful story with a wry sense of humour.

It's set in a timeless London, where Sophie (newcomer Ruby Barnhill) lives in an orphanage. One night she spots a stealthy giant (Mark Rylance) prowling the city streets, so he grabs her and takes her back to Giant Country so she can't reveal his secret existence. As she gets to know him, Sophie discovers that he's an outcast in his own community, half the size of the nine giants (including Jemane Clement and Bill Hader) who live around him and bully him mercilessly because he doesn't eat human beans. This has earned him the nickname Big Friendly Giant, which Sophie shortens to BFG as she accompanies him into a colourful parallel world in his job collecting dreams and nightmares. Then when the bullies' threats grow stronger, Sophie comes up with a plan to get help from the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and her staff (Rebecca Hall and Rafe Spall).

Maggie's Plan Review

Good

A New York comedy with vivid characters and a contrived plot, this feels rather a lot like a Woody Allen movie. Although writer-director Rebecca Miller keeps it rather cute and silly, avoiding the more pointed issues raised in her script. Still, the snaky, farcical story is very entertaining, and the witty performances from the terrific cast make it well worth a look.

Greta Gerwig plays Maggie, a woman who has given up on finding the perfect man, so she sets out to have a child using a donation from a pickle entrepreneur (Travis Fimmel). Then just after she has the fertilisation procedure, she falls for her fellow professor John (Ethan Hawke), who's looking for a reason to leave his haughty Danish wife Georgette (Julianne Moore). Three years later, Maggie and John are settled down with their toddler daughter. But Maggie is frustrated that John has become aimless, unable to finish his long-in-the-works novel. She's also somehow ended up raising his and Georgette's kids (Mina Sundwall and Jackson Frazer). So she hatches a plan to get Georgette to take him back.

The premise is ingenious, and Miller fills it in with colourful characters and lots of detail, plus several convenient twists and implausible turns of the plot. This keeps the film from ever becoming more than a bit of nutty fluff, but at least it's entertaining fluff. Gerwig and Hawke are superb as self-involved people whose relationship develops in surprisingly resonant ways. Both are sympathetic but not hugely likeable in the way they remain oblivious to everyone around them, and watching them interact is a lot of fun. But the entire film is stolen by Moore in a hilariously spiky turn as the high-maintenance Georgette, who peers imperiously through her riotous array of furs and scarves but can only barely hide the fragile person inside.

Early 'Sundance' Favourites Already Generating A Buzz For Upcoming Movies

The Sundance Film Festival is the place to be for young, aspiring filmmakers hoping to crack into the hotly-contested business of the movies. By the end of the film festival, which this year runs from 16-26 January, there are always a selection of film titles that are revived for the following awards season, and this year people are so eager for the celluloid showcase that a number of early contenders for festival glory have been marked before their debut release.

God's Pocket
The dark God's Pocket stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Eddie Marsan

In thirty years the film has discovered some of the most promising filmmakers out there and continues to deliver, from Roland Joffé’s The Killing Fields in the festival's opening year (1985) to last year's most notable success; Fruitvale Station, the debut feature length from Ryan Coogler. With another 120 films to get through this year it seems more than likely that at least one of the releases will be leaving Park City, Utah, with more than a few skiing lessons and a commemorative t-shirt.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 Review

Very Good

With new writers and directors, this frenetic sequel indulges in silliness with less substance than last time. It's a lot of fun, but also rather forgettable, like the movie's surprisingly unimaginative title (honestly, the sky was literally the limit here). So while we laugh at the constant barrage of jokes and the colourful visual mayhem, there's nothing to engage us on a more satisfying level.

It opens with a recap of the first film, then carries on immediately, as young inventor Flint (voiced by Hader) is thrilled that his idol Chester (Forte), head of super-cool mega-company Live Corp, is put in charge of cleaning up the food storm Flint started. With a secret plan to get his hands on Flint's invention, Chester evacuates everyone from the island community Swallow Falls and offers Flint a job at his headquarters in San Franjose, California. But back home the food has come to life and is threatening to attack the world, so Flint is sent to solve the problem, unofficially accompanied by his pals (Faris' weathergirl, Samberg's surfer dude, Bratt's cameraman and Crews' muscle-cop) and his fisherman dad (Caan).

These characters are so hilariously goofy that we can't help but enjoy the chaos as they return to the island, which has been transformed into a Jurassic Park-style jungle overrun by food-pun creatures like shrimpanzees, tacodiles and watermelephants. The animation is gorgeously detailed, with all kinds of visual gags to match the deranged verbal banter. And the snappy voice cast dive in with gusto. The new characters fit in perfectly: Forte is hilariously slimy, while Schaal (as his talking baboon assistant Barb) steals the show as the only person on-screen who has a story arc.

Turbo Review

Very Good

Whizzy and superficial, this isn't the most complicated animated film ever made, but it's a lot of fun if you can buy into its silly premise about a snail who moves at super-fast speed. Aside from its riotous sense of energy and thrilling action sequences, the script is also packed with enough deranged humour to keep the adults laughing along with the kids.

It starts in a normal garden, where Theo (voiced by Reynolds) dreams of racing his human idol, the Indy champ Guy Gagne (Hader). Theo even calls himself "Turbo", annoying his pragmatic brother Chet (Giamatti). Then a freak accident involving nitrous-oxide gives him lightning speed. In search of a chance to race, he meets another dreamer with a practical-minded brother: Tito (Pena) is a man who owns a taco truck with his grumpy sibling Angelo (Guzman). And it's Tito who works with local business owners (Jenkins, Jeong and Rodriguez) to help Turbo achieve his goal to enter the Indianapolis 500 and race against his hero. On the track, Turbo is assisted by a pit-crew of Tito's pet snails (Jackson, Rudolph, Dogg and Schwartz).

Yes, the plot is preposterous, but the script openly acknowledges the insanity of the "snail vs car" race, maintaining the dizzying size discrepancy as all of the characters are just as incredulous as we are. The filmmakers also create a hilarious snail underworld packed with running gags about the perils of being so little. Although they haven't included much slime, which is a strange omission for a movie aimed primarily at pre-teen boys. Still, each snail (and each human too) is such a bundle of big personality traits that we don't really mind the gender and ethnic stereotypes.

The To Do List Review

Very Good

Even as this comedy strains to be goofy and transgressive, it catches us by surprise simply because it dares to explore first-time sexual experiences through female eyes. And Aubrey Plaza (Safety Not Guaranteed) brings her usual sardonic wit to the lead role, merrily offending the more timid moviegoers while making more adventurous fans wish the film went even further.

Plaza plays Brandy, who graduated at the top of her Boise high school class. But with that goal achieved, she wonders if she neglected to prepare properly for university social life, so she makes a summer to-do list of sex-related tasks leading, hopefully, to losing her virginity to the hunky guitar-strumming lifeguard Rusty (Porter). She works with him at the local swimming pool along with her nice-guy best pal Cameron (Simmons), who's of course secretly in love with her. But as Brandy works through the list with the help of her friends (Shawkat and Steele) and her experienced big sister (Bilson), she starts to worry that her emotions are getting in the way.

Thankfully, writer-director Carey refuses to let this turn into a romantic slush-fest, keeping the encounters jagged and often very funny. The script is packed with hilariously squirm-inducing conversations about sex, many involving Brandy's far too helpful mother (Britton). Although her dad (Gregg) and her loser boss (Hader) understandably don't want to know. Meanwhile, when the local guys (Glover and Mintz-Plasse) find out about Brandy's list, they are sure to tick off a few items themselves, as does a visiting rock star (Samberg).

Review Round-Up: 'Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2'

Bill Hader Anna Faris Terry Crews

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, the sequel to the successful children's animation, is due to be released in US cinemas today (27th September). Reviewers have been generally positive when considering the film is aimed at children, but fear parents may find the film dull and lacking in originality.

In the sequel to the animated film, things seem to be going well for scientist extraordinaire Flint Lockwood: he's working at The Live Corp Company for his idol Chester V and romance is still blossoming with meteorologist Sam Sparks. Lockwood, voiced by Bill Hader, and other exiled residents of Swallow Falls, are up against, instead of masses of food, food monsters created by Lockwood's machine.

Tina Fey will return to the show where she made her name as the host of the first week of the new season, with Arcade Fire serving as her musical guest. The week after that will be The Miley Cyrus Show, with the oft-talked about star serving as both host and musical guest in what will no doubt be a sure fire way to boost the ratings, for better or worse. Her 5 October performance can work one of two ways for Miley, either she talks her recent behaviour in good jest and routinely lampoons herself and her newly acquired stage antics, or she gets all uppity and people stop pitying her and start actually hating her. Hopefully, it'll be the first option.

"The To Do List's" Sexual Escapades Are Grounded In Reality, Say The Film's Stars

Aubrey Plaza Bill Hader

The To Do List might not be gaining momentum with critics, but it isn’t for a lack of realism, to be sure. The cast and production team of the racy teenage comedy sat down for a chat with The Hollywood Reporter recently and they had a lot to say about their sexy (or not so much) past. Aubrey Plaza, who plays the film’s goody-goody protagonist, shared that her real-life family was remarkably similar to her on-screen one – in their prudishness, at least.

Anna Faris Bill Hader James Caan

The new Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 trailer has rolled out online, promising more of the same from Sony's surprise animated hit that appears to be on the verge of forming a franchise. The first film - featuring the voice of Bill Hader, Anna Faris and James Caan - won strong reviews on its way to securing $243 million worldwide.

The sequel continues right after the first film, with young inventor Flint and his friends forced to leave their home town. However, when the food machine awakens to produce living food beasts like living pickles, hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, and apple pie-thons, he must return to the save the world.

There's plenty to enjoy in the new trailer, particularly when the gang marvel at all the weird and wonderful new food monsters before coming across a tomato.that's.just a tomato. There's also the "leek in the boat" gang from the original trailer.

Flint Lockwood is a genius inventor who previously caused chaos in his hometown when he invented the FLDSMDFR (Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator) which turned water into food and nearly caused a tornado of spaghetti and meatballs to destroy the town. Now he wants to go back to Swallow Falls with his friends including his weather intern best pal Sam Sparks, his father Tim and his pet monkey Steve, because the food monsters he created are learning to swim in order to cross oceans and take over the world. On arriving, they find that the abandoned town is now home to Spring Onion giraffes, Shrimp-anzees, fla-mangos. As beautiful as this new land is, they soon find themselves involved in a deadly chase hotly pursued by man (and monkey!) eating giant cheese burgers. Will Flint invent a solution to save the world this time round? Or are they facing Burgergeddon?

The sequel to the 2009 animated comedy 'Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs' is now finally set to be released, this time directed by Cody Cameron ('Open Season 3') and Kris Pearn in his directorial debut and John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein ('Horrible Bosses', 'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone') coming on board for the screenplay. It will hit cinemas in the UK on October 25th 2013.

On making an escape, he finds himself glowing like a lightbulb and zooming past his inching friends a hundred times faster than he ever believed was possible. Ben Affleck Gets To Re-Visit Argo, Again, And Re-Do His Marriage On SNL

Ben Affleck Saturday Night Live Kanye West Fred Armisen Bill Hader

Ben Affleck was a fitting host for the last episode in the current series of Saturday Night Live, with the Oscar winner providing ample personality, humour and taste in an episode where he was very much overshadowed by other cast-members and guests. Before the show the real emphasis was on Kanye West's appearance, with audiences hotly anticipating whether the rapper had any new material to offer, as well as the end of Bill Hader and Fred Armisen's (and apparently Jason Sudeikis) run on the show.

So Affleck needed to do something fresh and original to try and distract the audience before Yeezy's performance and the final few sketches of the departing SNL-ers, unfortunately though Argo jokes just aren't that funny or original anymore. Even Armisen's slightly amusing impersonation of Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad failed to lift the sketch, nor did Affleck insistence that he only made the fake movie in Argo because he’s “long been looking to appear in a movie worse than Gigli.” (Really, we're still making jokes about Gigli).

Turbo is a regular garden snail who, unlike his friends, is bored of living his life at a. well, snail's pace. As much as his friends and family try to convince him that his dreams of becoming a super-fast racer are, frankly, ridiculous and utterly fruitless, he refuses to give up hope and makes a wish that is set to change his life forever. After accidently finding himself taking a ride on the roof of the racing car of one of the fastest racers in the world, he finds himself flying into a tank of nitrous oxide which transforms his genetic code and makes him one of the fastest moving creatures on Earth, putting other wannabe snail racers to shame.

'Turbo' is the hilarious and delightful new animated movie from DreamWorks about the power of hope and determination in striving to achieve your dreams. It is David Soren's directorial feature film debut, though he has worked on a string of other animated flicks in other departments. He also co-wrote 'Turbo' with Darren Lemke ('Jack the Giant Slayer', 'Shrek Forever After') and Robert D. Siegel ('The Wrestler', 'Big Fan'). It is scheduled to be released in UK cinemas this Autumn on October 18th 2013.

Men In Black 3 Review

Good
A decade after Men in Black II, the cast and crew attempt to rekindle that blend of dry humour and outrageous silliness. But instead of ramping up the hilarity, as in part 2, this movie is weighed down with a messy plot and jokes that are amusing if not actually funny.

One day Agent J (Smith) wakes up to find that his partner Agent K (Jones) has been dead for more than 40 years. It turns out that evil alien Boris (Clement) has travelled back to 1969 to stop K from capturing him so he can conquer Earth. So J has little choice but to follow him. First, he must convince new boss O (Thompson) to let him go, and then he has to explain everything to the younger K (Brolin) and work with another alien (Stuhlbarg) who can see multiple futures.

Doogal Review

Bad
I'm a little ashamed to say this, but here goes: I didn't know what Doogal was supposed to be. From the looks of him (see picture, below), I thought he might be some kind of hairy bowel movement. His name is Doogal. His best friend is a snail. It's not unreasonable. It's juvenile, yes, but that's what Hollywood animated fare has become, by and large, so you can hardly blame me.

Turns out Doogal (Daniel Tay) is actually a dog. His best friend is Florence (Kylie Minogue), as well as a cow (Whoopi Goldberg), a train (Chevy Chase), and a flatulent moose (Kevin Smith). Their adventure, and you'll need to hang in there for this, involves magic diamonds that can freeze the sun. There's of course a bad guy with a plan to do just that: He's a kind of alien with a spring for the lower half of his body (voiced by an audibly bored Jon Stewart). Their adventure to stop her takes them across the countryside and, er, into, like, a magic land, or, something, I think.
