Kylie Minogue Wins Mononym Battle With Kylie Jenner

Kylie Minogue Kylie Jenner

Kylie Minogue and Kylie Jenner have been locked in a bitter copyright battle ever since the latter tried to trademark just her first name, despite the former having used the mononym for almost thirty years. Now it seems that the popstar has successfully blocked the reality star's application.

Kylie MinogueKylie Minogue wins trademark battle against Kylie Jenner

Jenner tried to apply to trademark 'Kylie' in 2014, which was just before she launched her popular lip kits for Kylie Cosmetics. Naturally, Minogue and her team immediately blocked the application to the US Patent and Trademark Office in February 2016 arguing that she was an 'internationally-renowned performing artist, humanitarian and breast cancer activist known worldwide simply as 'Kylie'', while her 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' counterpart was simply 'a secondary reality television personality'.

Kylie Minogue Ends Engagement To Joshua Sasse Amid Cheating Accusations

Kylie Minogue

Nearly a year after they announcement their engagement following a whirlwind romance, Kylie Minogue has reportedly called off her marriage to fiancé Joshua Sasse amid allegations of infidelity.

The 48 year old pop princess met Sasse, 19 years her junior, on the set of his TV series ‘Galavant’ in 2015, when she made a guest appearance on the show. Months later, in February 2016, they announced that they had gotten engaged.

However, according to a report in The Sun on Thursday (February 2nd), Kylie threw Joshua out of her home in West London this week after she discovered he “grew close” to 34 year old Spanish actress Marta Milans. The report broke just a few days after she was pictured without her engagement ring.

20,000 Days On Earth Review

Excellent

Far from the standard biographical documentary, this is a strikingly artistic exploration of the life of musician, actor and writer Nick Cave, assembled with the rhythms and energies of his work. It's such an inventive approach to filmmaking that it's both gripping and surprisingly moving, shot with a lush visual style that weaves in Cave's distinctive, provocative music and earthy humour.

The film follows Cave over the course of one day, which he has calculated is his 20,000th. Born in rural Australia, Cave is now 56, and lives in Brighton, England, with his wife Susie Bick and their cheeky twin sons Arthur and Earl. Over the course of this day, Cave reminisces about his life as he goes through his usual routine: writing his next script, working with his songwriting partner Warren Ellis and watching TV with his boys. On this day, he also visits the recording studio, talks about issues from his childhood with noted psychoanalyst Darian Leader, trawls through his archive and offers lifts to friends and collaborators like Kylie Minogue, Ray Winstone and Blixa Bargeld.

There are moments when we can feel Cave and filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard straining to find a clever way of inserting the usual documentary elements, so the film sometimes feels a bit belaboured. For example, Cave's archive is a cluttered basement full of old documents, photos and videos that are projected on to the walls as archival clips. This may be contrived, but it's also bracingly original, as is turning the usual to-camera interviews into revelatory conversations with the man himself. And the songs are performed in jam sessions, practice rooms and beautifully shot stage pieces. For his part, Cave goes through this odyssey with deadpan wit and refreshing transparency, opening up about his personal life, creative processes and the tricky balance between fame and artistic integrity.

'20,000 Days On Earth': Trailer Released For Intriguing Nick Cave Docu-Drama

Nick Cave Kylie Minogue

20,000 Days On Earth: no it's not a gun-totin' new action movie about an alien invasion, it's a drama about a day in the life of Nick Cave. The pseudo-documentary supposedly charts the rocker's 20,000th day on Earth.

The 56 year-old Australian musician narrates the film, which features scenes of him writing on a typewriter, going to therapy, spending time with Kylie Minogue and Ray Winstone, having food with fellow Aussie musician Warren Ellis, and hanging out with his son watching Scarface.

Anyone looking for a humdrum, fly-on-the-wall experience of a typical Cave day will be disappointed: the film does examine his songwriting process, live show performances and various celebrity friendships but it's creative in its narration, echoing Cave's own idiosyncracies.

But she is; Minogue has decided that her third major dramatic role will be in ‘San Andreas – an earthquake thriller starring The Rock. Jackman explained his bandaged nose, stating that his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, had warned him to get a mark on his nose checked. After seeing a doctor it seems Jackman had a cancer scare as he had "basal cell carcinoma." He evidently had the cells removed, hence the bandage, but wanted to use his experience as a warning to others to wear sunscreen in order to decrease the likelihood of developing skin cancer.

Kylie Minogue and Nick Cave formed an unlikely partnership in the 1980s – he was the badass rebel while she was struggling to rid herself of the pop princess title. Now, in 20,000 Days on Earth, which will be directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, the Australian compatriots will combine once more.

Selena Gomez Kesha Fergie Kylie Minogue

Selena Gomez was a highlight of the weekend’s NewNowNext awards, in which celebrities are celebrated for such highly sought-after talents as having the best new hairdo, being the ‘most addictive reality star’ and having the ‘hottest, sexiest ink.’ Oh yeah. This is the important stuff, folks. Gomez rocked up on the red carpet wearing a pair of leather-look trousers and a peplum top. You thought the peplum look was on its way out, but you were wrong.

Selena wasn’t the only star to make a show at the awards, either. Kesha arrived looking cool in a mint green, vintage style dress and her long blond fringe almost covering her eyes. She’s obviously been paying attention to the grunge styles currently flooding the catwalk and went for the ‘if you squint, I look a lot like Courtney Love’ vibe. Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie was there, too, hiding her bump, her bump, her lovely baby bump, under an Oriental style black dress.

Can Kylie Minogue Outdo Sienna Miller As Edie Sedgwick?

Kylie Minogue Sienna Miller Peter Serafinowicz Edie Sedgwick Andy Warhol Idris Elba

Kylie Minogue has landed a starring role in a Sky Arts TV comedy based on Andy Warhol's muse Edie Sedgwick. The Australian pop princess - who is dedicating more time to the acting side of her career - will appear in an edition of Playhouse Presents titled Hey Diddly Dee, with comic Peter Serafinowicz playing the enigmatic artist.

The drama follows a group of actors putting on a production about Warhol, with Minogue playing a Sedgwick-style character called Bibbi. "When the script was sent to me, I read it and knew instinctively I wanted to be part of this project. In Hey Diddly Dee, Marc [Warren, director] has created a beautiful and quirky story," said Kylie in a statement. Sedgwick was an artist student who joined Warhol at the infamous 'Factory' - the pop artist's studio and debauched hangout for a group of cool New York eccentrics, some of them drug addicts. She gained fame as a Warhol muse and successful fashion model, though died in 1971 at the age of 28. A coroner ruled her death as "undetermined/accident/suicide" though her death certificate stated the immediate cause was "probably acute barbiturate intoxication." She was played by British actress Sienna Miller in the 2006 movie Factory Girl, which received mixed reviews from critics, though most lauded the actress' individual performance. Film 4 said, "Sienna Miller guarantees herself a bit more than 15 minutes with a strong performance in an otherwise dazed and confused film." James Christopher of The Times said, "Miller is a genuine surprise as the damaged star. But the film leaves her very much as it finds her: a clueless naïve."

Minogue has appeared in a number of movies including Leos Carax's frankly bizarre Holy Motors, which was tipped to win the Palme d'Or in 2012, though eventually lost out to Amour. The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw gave it 5 stars, saying, "A gorgeous furry teacup of a film." Hey Diddly Dee is due to screened on Sky Arts on March 14, which will be followed by a Playhouse Presents episode written and directed by Idris Elba, and another by artist Grayson Perry.

Kylie Minogue And Jason Donovan Back Together At Last!

Kylie Minogue Jason Donovan Rick Astley

Yes! Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are back together! Well, they were last night at least when the two 80's pop icons reunited on stage for the first time in 23 years at a concert in London.

The Australian pop stars took to the stage at last night's The Hit Factory Live - Christmas Cracker (Dec 21) at the O2 Arena in London to perform their 1988 smash hit 'Especially For You,' with the crowd erupting into great applause straight after. The show was put on to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Stock, Aitken, Waterman; the pop music powerhouses behind such acts as Rick Astley, Bananarama, Mel & Kim, Dead or Alive as well as the Australian twosome.

Having shot to fame in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, Minogue and Donovan followed up this recognition with two of the most recognised pop careers in the 80's and 90's, and for Kylie, the 2000's too. The Aussie twosome were joined by Rick Astley, Bananarama, Steps, 2 Unlimited, Sonia, Princess and Pepsi & Shirlie on the night, with all the acts taking to the stage to close the show with a rendition of Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody.'

Little Mix: Rihanna's Management Banned All Contact With 'X Factor' Stars

Little Mix Rihanna Lady GaGa Kylie Minogue

Little Mix have revealed that they were forbidden to chat to Rihanna after she took to the 'X Factor' stage last year prior to the girl band's spectacular win.

The 'DNA' hitmakers insisted that Ri Ri's management prevented any contact between the star and the contestants. 'Her management wouldn't let anybody meet her, but she walked past me and said, 'Your hair is awesome!' This was when I had my head half-shaved, which I hated, so it cheered me up', Leigh Anne Pinnock told We Love Pop magazine. They also shared the stage with Lady GaGa who was apparently a lot easier to talk to. 'Lady Gaga was amazing', said Jesy Nelson.

Being new on the pop scene, that wasn't the last time they were to be a little starstruck by their fellow pop icons as they recently got the chance to meet Aussie singer Kylie Minogue. 'We met Kylie at the BRITs', said Jesy. 'I kept looking at her bum because she's got a really nice bottom.' The girls hope, however, that they'll be the ones the other stars are dying to meet revealing that they plan to become the world's biggest girl band within the next three years. 'You've got to aim high', Leigh Anne added.

Holy Motors: Kylie Minogue Charms Critics In New Art-House Movie

Kylie Minogue Leos Carax Eva Mendes Denis Lavant

Kylie Minogue’s new movie Holy Motors has impressed the critics. It’s been a long time since the Aussie pop star ventured in the word of movies but with this art-house offering, directed by Leos Carax, she seems to have done herself proud. It’s an unusual film, seemingly with little in the way of a fixed narrative structure, but that’s part of its off-beat charm.

The Telegraph review reveals that Kylie’s starring moment, though brief, is a highlight: ” Kylie Minogue, memorably, singing an ex-lover’s torch song along the dusty walkways of a derelict department store. We’re left with a vast amount to puzzle over and process. One thing’s for sure: you may struggle to wrest unified meaning out of this entirely irreducible movie, but like Kylie’s other featured song, you can’t get it out of your head.” Equally, The Guardian describes Kylie Minogue’s performance in Holy Motors as “stylish yet gentle.” The New Statesman review does a better job of un-ravelling the meaning of Holy Motors by explaining “the central enigma of Holy Motors rests on where life ends and performance begins, or whether the distinction is irrelevant.”

Also starring Eva Mendes and Denis Lavant, Holy Motors may seem like a peculiarly avant-garde excursion for Kylie but she seems quite at home in front of the camera and look relaxed, though evidently excited at the movie’s recent London premiere, where she revealed that she “couldn’t not do” the film.

Holy Motors Review

Essential

Indescribably insane, this outrageously inventive French drama is so bracingly strange that we can't help but love every moment. It's certainly not like any movie you've ever seen before, and French director Carax packs it with so many offbeat touches - from wildly unexpected casting to witty movie references - that watching it is almost like a fever dream.

It's the story of Oscar (Lavant), who goes to work in a white stretch-limousine with his driver Celine (Scob). But the limo is actually his office, and his job entails dressing up in full make-up to play nine roles over the course of the day. These include a scabby homeless woman, a dying husband and a freaky green mischief-maker who invades a funeral and bites off people's fingers. But as the day progresses, Oscar begins to crack under the strain. Is it because of the job's huge emotional demands or because he's not living his own life?

The film is like a razor sharp satire of reality TV and social networking, as Carax cuts through the layers of artificiality of modern life. At the centre, these are all actors playing actors in a variety of scenarios. But who is watching? Some of these scenes are sexy and funny, while others are terrifying or darkly moving. But for all of the intensity of feeling, the situations are essentially shallow simply because they're not actually real. And Carax pushes each segment far beyond what we expect.

The big release in the US this weekend is Dredd, which isn't actually a remake of the 1995 Sylvester Stallone action romp. It's a completely reimagined thriller based on the same series of comics, a surprisingly intelligent blockbuster, and a rare 18-certificate film that topped the UK box office chart a couple of weeks back.

Kylie Minogue, Aphrodite Les Folies (Live In London) Album Review

It's probably fair to say that the longer an artist is in the music business, the higher expectations become, especially when it comes to live performance. So, recorded over two nights at London's 20,000 capacity O2 Arena, twenty-something years into her career as a solo performing artist, this live recording and DVD shows how exactly how Kylie Minogue still does on this, the Aphrodite Les Folies tour in the wake of the release of her recent album Aphrodite.

The recording kicks off with an ambitious, suspense building opening entitled 'The Birth Of Aphrodite (Intro)' greeted by the cheering twenty-thousand strong adoring London masses, before pounding into the lead and title track 'Aphrodite' during which Minogue essentially personifies herself as Aphrodite; the [Greek] goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and procreation. Announcing lyrically 'I was gone and now I'm back, can you feel me on your stereo?' with great confidence and determination, the opening track of Kylie's show proves that the 43 year old is well and truly back for more with distinctive yet secure vocals. There's a smooth segue into 'The One' which continues the disco pound and energy beneath Kylie's vocals and then there's an almost eighties rock swagger to 'Wow' which follows maintaining the confident glory that one would expect from someone so many years into her career, so too having a cast of many performers alongside her on stage. 'Illusion' grows out of an atmospheric, suspense-creating instrumental passage which gradually gears up to kick into the track. The driving bass line of Kylie's 2004 single 'I Believe In You' then continues to hold the pace and energy meanwhile her vocals remain strong, secure and similarly suffer no falter in energy or flexibility. Ridden with electro synth riffery and even more of a swaggering dance pound, 'Cupid Boy' leads forward into 'Spinning Around', the number one single from 2000, with its' bass groove remaining dominant in the mix throughout to really drive the live performance and also continue a real funky disco flavour throughout.

Kylie Minogue, Better than Today Single Review

Kylie's had a stellar year. A worldwide number-one album and a comeback that would make the likes of Christina Aguilera shudder, it is obvious that this Aussie pop princess is going nowhere. Following perfectly in tradition, Better than today, the third single off her LP Aphrodite, is a fun electro number, that whilst sounds great as an album track, sadly doesn't seem to pack a punch enough to stand firm as a lead-out track.

Doogal Review

Bad
I'm a little ashamed to say this, but here goes: I didn't know what Doogal was supposed to be. From the looks of him (see picture, below), I thought he might be some kind of hairy bowel movement. His name is Doogal. His best friend is a snail. It's not unreasonable. It's juvenile, yes, but that's what Hollywood animated fare has become, by and large, so you can hardly blame me.

Turns out Doogal (Daniel Tay) is actually a dog. His best friend is Florence (Kylie Minogue), as well as a cow (Whoopi Goldberg), a train (Chevy Chase), and a flatulent moose (Kevin Smith). Their adventure, and you'll need to hang in there for this, involves magic diamonds that can freeze the sun. There's of course a bad guy with a plan to do just that: He's a kind of alien with a spring for the lower half of his body (voiced by an audibly bored Jon Stewart). Their adventure to stop her takes them across the countryside and, er, into, like, a magic land, or, something, I think.
