The line up for this year’s Tribeca Film Festival was announced on Tuesday, with a diverse range of titles from features to documentaries taking part in the annual competition. This year, the best narrative feature category sees 12 films battling it out for the prestigious prize, while 12 documentaries from around the word will compete to be named best documentary feature.

Richard Gere and Dakota Fanning’s hotly tipped Franny will have its world premiere at the festival. Directed by Andrew Renzi the film follows Gere as a wealthy, ageing eccentric who finds a new lease on life by working his way into the life of his late friend’s daughter (Fanning) and her husband, played by Theo James.

Jafar Panahi, the critically acclaimed Iranian director, has won the Berlin Film Festival's Golden Bear for his film Taxi. Panahi has been banned from making films by the Iranian authorities yet continues to work and gain international support. Panahi also stars in Taxi as a driver who meets a variety of people as he drives them around Tehran. The film both celebrates Iranian culture and condemns the censorship imposed by the Iranian authorities.

The Sundance Film Festival is currently in full swing, having begun on 22nd January, and wrapping up on 1st February. This year, something particularly special is in the air at Salt Lake City, as the festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. That's right, the Sundance Film Festival has been running for 30 years! Starting out back in 1985, Sundance screened 86 films with the help of 13 staff members. Last year, the festival showcased 186 films of 12,218 that were submitted. That sort of growth has helped Sundance become one of the biggest independent film festivals in, not only North America, by the world.

This year, 54 first-time filmmakers are having their films premiered at the festival, but there are plenty of well-known faces there, as well, as 200 films are being shown this year for the monumental anniversary. For the 12th year running, The Village at the Lift has been set up in Park City with a café, restaurant, nightclub and photo studio. And this photo studio has seen a host of celebrities for the festival flocking in to pose for pictures in promotion for their various films, taken by Larry Busacca.

James Franco has a True Story to tell and he wants to tell it to Jonah Hill. That's the premise of Franco's latest film, based on, ironically, a true story, as he plays one of the FBI's most wanted men, Christian Longo, convicted of murdering his wife and three children.

It’s been quite a turnaround for The Interview in the last month. A little over four weeks ago, the Sony picture had been seemingly consigned to the dustbin following the studio’s cancellation of its release in the face of threats from cyberhackers.

But following its resounding success in its limited digital release, the rumoured Netflix deal has come to pass. Late on Tuesday, the online streaming service announced that the comedy would be available to its US and Canadian subscribers.

The revival of The Interview, which so recently seemed to be doomed to the dustbin of movie history, continues unabated. Following the remarkable box office figures returned upon its limited release across the States, streaming service Netflix has tentatively expressed an interest in making the film available to its subscribers.

On Wednesday, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a press conference “People want to see the movie and we want to be able to deliver the movie.” However, he would not elaborate on the details of any efforts to secure the film. Sony Pictures had no comment on the possibility of such a deal either.

Sony’s last minute Christmas Eve change of heart seems to have paid off, with its controversial film The Interview taking more than $15 million in online sales and rentals, it has been revealed.

In addition to the $2.8 million it made from its four-day opening run over 331 independent theaters that arranged to show the film on December 25th, good enough to put at 16th place in the box office charts, the comedy has become Sony’s highest grossing online release ever, according to Variety.

The Interview has made over $15 million in online rentals and purchases since its availability on December 25th.

So The Interview has received a fair bit of backlash for turning a complex political conflict into a raging bro fest, but creators Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Dan Sterling are laughing all the way to the bank. It didn’t matter that the Sony hack and threats resulted in the movie being pulled from theatres. After its Wednesday release, The Interview made $15 million on online sales alone.

If you were offended by The Interview, this information might make your head explode. 

In just three days following Christmas Eve, The Interview has gone on to become Sony’s most downloaded title of all time. So... er... given the terrible reviews and comments online, are we seeing reverse psychology at work here? Or just good old fashioned American rebellion?

The Interview, the now very, very controversial new comedy from Seth Rogen and James Franco has had it glitzy New York premiere cancelled after another threat was made by the group thought to be behind the recent Sony hack.

The film, which centres on an attempted assassination of North Korean president Kim Jong Un, was supposed to have its big premiere at Manhattan's Sunshine Cinema on Thursday evening (December 18th). However the Los Angeles Times now reports that Landmark Theatres, which owns the venue has said that Sony had cancelled the premiere.

There was absolutely an air of uncertainty about Amy Pascal's leaked emails to Seth Rogen. The comedy actor was unwilling to make edits to his controversial movie The Interview but, on the face of it, Pascal seemed a little disinterested anyway.

The executives ended up getting their way and altering the gory final scene in the movie, during which Kim Jong Un's head explodes and is set aflame. However, in a new set of leaked emails, it appears the head honchos hate the entire movie anyway, calling it too offensive, "desperately unfunny" and likely to fail given the starring berth of James Franco.

In a development that appears to add credence to the accusation that North Korea could have something to do with the recent hack at Sony, Seth Rogen and James Franco's payment for controversial movie The Interview have appeared online.

'The Interview' has already become arguably the most controversial comedy of the moment, with its less than sensitive approach to the crisis in North Korea. Nonetheless, it's another tremendously funny venture from a comedy duo we just can't get enough of.

James Franco and Seth Rogen appear to be simply inseparable at the moment; having been best buddies since meeting on the set of late nineties show 'Freaks and Geeks', the pair have collaborated  on numerous projects such as 2008's Golden Globe nominated 'Pineapple Express', Evan Goldberg's memorable 'This Is the End' (in which they play themselves) and Franco's own film adaptation of William Faulkner's 'The Sound and the Fury' (yeah, we couldn't imagine them doing 'serious' either).

One of the more striking things about the new multi-strand teen drama Palo Alto is how it features a series of second and third-generation artists and rising stars. It's certainly a film that looks forwards, crafting a very different style of teen drama than anything we've seen before.

Intriguingly, the film most closely resembles writer-director Gia Coppola's Aunt Sofia's debut film The Virgin Suicides (1999), another evocative teen movie that centred on emotions rather than overt plot points. Gia is also of course the granddaughter of master filmmaker Francis (of The Godfather and Apocalyse Now fame). Her famous cousins include Nicolas Cage and Jason Schwartzman, whose mother Talia Shire (best known as Adrian in Rocky) also appears in Palo Alto.

Originally scheduled to release in October, The Interview is co-directed by Evan Goldberg (who also directed This is the End) and Seth Rogen, and is based around a celebrity talk show host (Franco) and his producer (Rogen) who are tasked with assasinating North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. The film has upset North Korea, who unsurprisingly aren't seeing the funny side, but as it turns out, audiences won't be seeing it either- at least, not for another two months.

Seth Rogen Vs. North Korea: Seth Rogen should be feeling a little nervous right now. The actor and funnyman, who is preparing for the fall release of new movie The Interview, has been threatened after North Korea issued an official complaint to the UN. The shady country raised its hackles over the plot of Rogen's new movie, which depicts a plot to kill dictator Kim Jong-Un. This is unbelievable. If you want to thumb your nose at the Supreme Leader, go giggle at the poster - it's hilarious.

The Daily Mail: George Clooney should only have seating arrangements and wedding cake tasting on his mind at the moment but the Gravity actor has had to engage in battle with The Daily Mail over comments the tabloid made alleging that the mother of Clooney's fiancée, Amal Alamuddin, was not happy with her daughters upcoming nuptials on religious grounds - a claim the actor has called a "lie." Clooney got angry, the Mail apologised, Clooney got angrier.
