One Direction fans have been going into panic mode since Monday, when the news broke that the boyband were planning to go on a year long hiatus starting next March. But while the band had initially stayed quiet on the reports, three members have now taken to twitter to try and assure fans this is not the end.

We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year,’ Niall Horan wrote on twitter. ‘Don't worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve! Can’t wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform,’ the 21 year old added.

Take a deep breath, Directioners, they're not officially splitting up - and this apparently has nothing to do with Zayn Malik's departure from the band. Today it was revealed that Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have agreed to an extended break of at least 12 months, starting in March 2016, to pursue solo projects.

The Sun reveals the boys have decided not to take the opportunity to tour after the Christmas release of their fifth album, and will instead temporarily disband, leaving each of them free to pursue other avenues.

Former One Direction member Zayn Malik has proved once and for all there’s no bad blood between him and his former bandmates. The singer, who left the group earlier this year, took to Twitter on Saturday to congratulate his former bandmates on their first single since his departure, 'Drag Me Down'.

Just a day after Zayn Malik said that he had left them to make “#realmusic”, One Direction are showing that life continues without him as they dropped their first single as a quartet on Friday morning, entitled ‘Drag Me Down’.

The single made a surprise appearance on the iTunes store and Spotify at around 6:30am on Friday (July 31st), followed by its radio debut on BBC Radio 1 a couple of hours later. 1D’s Liam Payne also tweeted a link to the iTunes store, saying “Bit of a surprise! Check out our new single! It’s called ‘Drag Me Down’ & I hope you love it as much as we do.”

‘X-Factor’ judge Simon Cowell has hinted that it might soon be time for One Direction to go on a hiatus, following the news that band member Louis Tomlinson is about to become a father for the first time. More news to rock the worlds of One Direction fans emerged today as reports suggest that Louis Tomlinson is to become a father. The boyband member is said to be expecting a baby with Los Angeles-based stylist Briana Jungwirth.

The rumours have not been officially confirmed at the time of writing, but People magazine reported on Tuesday evening (July 14th) that a source close to both parties told them: “Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother. It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer.”

Speaking backstage at Capital's Summertime Ball with Vodafone at London's Wembley Stadium yesterday (June 6), Liam addressed rumours of the phenomenally successful boy band's imminent split, saying, "We don't know where that came from because we've got loads of stuff going on."

Billboard have confirmed that Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan will all be in attendance at the ceremony, where they will be presenting a trophy.

Right, so it turns out that the fallout of Zayn Malik’s departure might be a bit more sensitive for everybody than One Direction’s management would like it to appear.

On Wednesday afternoon, a notable feud broke out on Twitter between Malik and remaining 1D member Louis Tomlinson, later continued on Zayn’s behalf by his producer friend Naughty Boy. For the first time, it indicates that there might be bad blood surrounding Malik’s departure after all.

Zayn Malik has made his first public appearance since leaving One Direction, at the fifth Annual Asian Awards. The 22 year old debut a new shaved hairstyle at the event, where he was accompanied by his mother Trisha Malik.

The 22-year-old was presented with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music at the ceremony, which was held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. Accepting the award Zayn referenced his time in the million selling pop group and thanked his former bandmates.

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson is single again, after splitting from his girlfriend of nearly four years Eleanor Calder. The couple’s split was confirmed after tabloids published pictures claiming to be of the 23 year old and a ‘mystery brunette’ over the weekend.

The future of the world’s biggest boyband One Direction could be in doubt, following a difficult week for the group which culminated in Zayn Malik leaving their 'On The Road Again' tour due to stress. Zayn Malik is leaving One Direction's tour and heading back to the UK. 22-year-old Malik has been signed off with stress. Malik will miss the next three tour dates in Manila and Jakarta. He is hoping to return to perform with the rest of the band in Johannesburg on 28th March for the last four concerts on their world tour. Simon Jones, One Direction's publicist, released a short statement on Twitter. "1D statement: Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate. The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta," Jones wrote on Twitter.

One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson is tired of ‘The Voice’ continually slagging off ‘The X Factor’. Ahead of the BBC’s flagship talent contest making its reappearance this Saturday (January 10th), the boyband member suggested that there wasn’t even a contest between the two programmes.

Being caught with a joint is really nothing new in the world of pop, especially amongst those aggressively seeking a change of image that will subsequently add a semblance of ‘edge’ to their persona. For child stars especially, in attempts to free themselves from their enforced clean-cut youth and iconic childhood roles, to indulge in the smoking of marijuana is the go-to method of both distancing oneself from the past and declaring oneself as a fully independent adult.

The group have come under fire from the tabloids for Zayn and Louis' actions.

The celebrity world abounds with examples of such exploits. Remember the media storm over Justin Bieber’s incident with a “suspicious cigarette” or Miley Cyrus’ bong exploits, which have now evolved into her free and consistent utilization of marijuana symbolism? The celebrity media loves a scandal more than a Republican loves his right to bear firearms, but whilst the current One Direction drug ‘scandal’ has rather predictably been plastered all over the tabloid’s front pages, the majority of the public greets it with a collective shrug of the shoulders. They are, after all, adolescents- the prime age for indulging in experimentation with illicit substances and activities. Most adults will have indulged in similar instances of experimentation with an array substances at a similar age to these patchy-bearded pop stars. In terms of the pop world, this particular act has been seen many times before; so many times, in fact, that the whole ‘rebellion’ phase is part and parcel of the child actor discourse. Some take it just a little too far, and the ensuing descent into drugs has unfortunately claimed the lives of many of Hollywood’s exploited youngsters.

Well, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, who make up 2/5 of the world’s most successful boyband One Direction, were caught on tape alledgedly smoking cannabis in Peru. The leaked video, which was published by the MailOnline, was allegedly filmed on April 27 as the 1D singers were on their way to perform at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru.

Louis Tomlinson of One Direction has come under fire for not only sharing a marijuana joint with fellow band member Zayn Malik but also using a shortened version of the N-word in the same leaked video. The new clip has sent shockwaves through One Direction's young fanbase as it presents a very different image to that of the usually squeaky clean singers.

Filmed in the car on the way to a recent concert in Peru, the clip shows Zayn and Louis joking around with members of their crew and passing around a joint which is referred to as "Mary Jane," a euphemism for weed. Feathers have also been ruffled by Louis' flippant attitude towards police that they pass and is heard referring to the law enforcers as the "po po."

Tomlinson is heard seeming to say "It's green only, n**" and blowing spoke whilst sharing the joint with the other passengers. A motorcycle police officer drives past and Louis says: "He's having a look. He's thinking 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there'. And he's hit the nail on the head."

JLS announced this year that they were to separate and head out on their own separate ventures, announcing their last ever run of performances along with the news of their split this summer. Marvin Humes, Aston Merrygold, Oritsé Williams and JB Gill performed to over 20,000 fans at the O2 Arena in London as they said goodbye to their fans after enjoying one of the best success stories The X Factor has offered to date.

It was an emotional night, but one that didn't lack the excitement and expression of the JLS performances of old. Among the thousands of screaming fans singing along in person for the last time, the boys also performed to a number of famous faces who didn't want to miss out on saying goodbye with the JLS boys. One Direction's Louis Tomlinson was there with girlfriend Eleanor Calder, as was Marvin Hume's wife and The Saturdays member Rochelle Humes. Former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, who was on the judging panel in 2008 when the boys were first discovered, was also there, Instagramming a picture of the eventing with the caption: "Soooo proud of these boys ! Was here on their first day! It only felt right to be here on their last! Love you boys! #farewellJls #muchlove."

Paul Rudd kicked off his third go at hosting NBC's Saturday Night Live by ensuring that every 15 year-old pop music fangirl in the country was watching as he recited an opening monologue whilst being flanked by boyband One Direction. Rudd lamented that he had been overshadowed by previous musical guests Beyoncé and Paul McCartney only to be upstaged once again by the British fivesome.

Louis Tomlinson announced last month that he had signed for Doncaster Rovers on non-contract basis - a sort of PR stunt really, though reports suggested Tomlinson was actually pretty good.

However, it's a good job that he hasn't the time to regularly lace his boots for the League One outfit given the rough ride he was given during a charity match at Celtic Park over the weekend.

The game was organised by former Aston Villa captain and Bulgaria international Stiliyan Petrov, who retired from the game in May having been diagnosed with leukaemia in 2012.

One Direction's This Is Us, a documentary following the band's rise from X-Factor contestants to one of the biggest pop groups in the world. The documentary premiered in London on Tuesday (20th August) in Leicester Square, London. Screaming fans awaited One Direction and the other celebrity attendees.

The band was formed in 2010 on The X-Factor's seventh season. The group are one of the most popular in the world and this was reflected in the turnout of fans at the premiere. Fans were so determined to see their music heroes that some camped out in Leicester Square the night before.

Authorities are predicting that 80,000 dedicated One Direction fans will descend on London's Leicester Square for tonight's premiere of their documentary film This Is Us, directed by Morgan Spurlock. 

Hundreds of fans had camped overnight in central London to ensure priority wristbands to the premiere, though by 6pm, police predict that Leicester Square could be swamped by 80,000, each with ideas of getting a glimpse of their idols.

It's an unbelievable number. It's a stadium gig full of people. It's a packed Wembley Stadium, crammed around the Odeon.

Louis Tomlinson’s career with One Direction has won him legions of adoring fans, but the singer might have it a bit tougher on the field. The teenage heartthrob is moving on to an entirely different demo, as he has recently signed with the Doncaster Rovers. Tomlinson is a Doncaster native, and while he has never played higher than Sunday League, apparently it was a childhood dream of his. Who could argue with that?

Turns out Louis is a double threat.

"I feel very honoured to have been asked to sign for Rovers and being able to help both the club and the amazing charity Bluebell Wood," the 21-year-old commented for the Rovers website. Tomlinson is referring to the fact that his appearances on the field (he has been signed as a non-contract player) will benefit the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, which works with children with a shortened life expectancy. Louis is expected to don the Rovers colours at some point during the season and train with the team.

Ah, we was wondering when this was going to happen. One Direction have added a couple more million to their bank accounts, though this time they're thinking for themselves. Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne have signed SEPARATE publishing deals to cash in on all songs they have credits for writing.

It's a clear sign that the boys are beginning to look after their own interests following the phenomenal success of their first couple of years in the industry. The publishing deals are being overseen by Fingate, the company who also cash in on Elvis Presley's back catalogue as well as work by Britney Spears, Black Eyed Peas and Foo Fighters. 

A source said: "This is a real statement of intent from the band. They have absolutely no intention of being spoon-fed pop puppets. They want to write and they want to earn as individuals." As well as the new deals, each of the five members have also invested in their own studio set-ups at home and have been attending writing sessions together after gigs. On their latest record Take Me Home, the band had three songs with individual writing credits while the others were penned by outsider songwriters. The group did not have a hand in writing the three biggest hits from the album, Live While We're Young, Kiss You and Little Things.
