Festival-Goers Burn A Huge Amount Of Calories By Dancing And Walking

Glastonbury Festival

Music festivals: weekends of massive over-indulgence that take a serious toll on your body, most of us believe. Wrongly, as it transpires, as a new study indicates that the average festival attendee ends up burning off a huge number of calories every day through dancing and walking between stages.

According to the NME, a tech company called Withings has published a study claiming that music fans at festivals burn off as much as 9,000 calories over a three-day event, walking over 15 miles in the process. Not sure that quite offsets the effect of treating your body like a dustbin at the same time, but it’s interesting news nonetheless.

According to a report in The Sun on Sunday (July 5th), Lily was with her husband Sam Cooper and a number of friends in the VIP area when she passed out having sat down on the grass to take a breather. Witnesses told the paper that she was “out of it” for about 45 minutes, as concerned friends took her to a nearby car and called paramedics, who after supplying her with oxygen decided that she needed no further attention.

Could Glastonbury Be Moving To London?

Glastonbury Festival Michael Eavis

Could the Glastonbury Festival one day be moving to London? An idea to temporarily relocate the legendary festival has been floated by Labour MP Gareth Thomas, who has suggested that the British capital would host it for one year in 2023 if London won the bid for European Capital of Culture.

Thomas, the MP for Harrow West, is campaigning to be selected as the party’s mayoral candidate. He suggested that Epping Forest or Hackney Marshes could be considered as one-off site for the festival, according to a report by The Independent.

He would push for a special edition of Glastonbury as part of a series of “pop-up” arts and culture events throughout London, even the outskirts, during 2023, if he were elected as Mayor.

Mixed Reviews, Lots Of Lights And A Stage Invader! It's Kanye West At Glastonbury

Kanye West Glastonbury Festival

Last night US rapper Kanye West headlined Glastonbury, Britain’s most iconic music festival, in a decision which was controversial even by standards set in recent years (remember all those Metallica nay sayers?). But now that it’s all over, just what did the Glastonbury audience make of Yezzus on the Pyramid stage?

Kanye WestKanye West on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage on Saturday.

With a stage set which featured nothing more than a ceiling made up of a few hundred lightbulbs, Kanye West took on Glastonbury solo, opening up with the very appropriate ‘Stronger’. But it wasn’t long until some drama went down, as midway through the third song Kanye fell victim to a stage invader, later identified as comedian Lee Nelson.

However, officials in China have warned that the Eavises' booking is tantamount to offering the Dalai Lama a platform to "engage in anti-China splittist activities," Reuters reports. The leader is not scheduled to meet with officials in Britain, though China nevertheless is concerned that he may be intent on promoting his wish for an autonomous Tibet in the UK.

Glastonbury has become one of the key dates in Britain’s social calendar over the last ten years, but a major shake-up of the festival could be on the horizon. Michael Eavis, the founder and organiser of the annual musical celebration, has admitted that it may have to move location in the future.

With just a week to go until the 2015 edition, which will see headline performances by Florence + The Machine, Kanye West and The Who, 79 year old Eavis told Sky News on Friday (June 19th) that he does not own the entire site and, as a result, is finding it increasingly difficult to get the requisite commissions to stage the event each year.

Q.1) Did Dolly Parton Mime At Glastonbury? Q.2) Should We Care?

Dolly Parton Glastonbury Festival

Dolly Parton has been hit with accusations that she mimed songs during her Glastonbury Festival performance last weekend. The 68 year-old country and western star topped off her recent UK tour to promote her new album, Blue Smoke, with a long-awaited appearance on the Pyramid Stage at the Somerset site.

However, her performance has drawn criticism from many who believe that the singer mouthed the words to a pre-recorded track onstage instead of singing live. In the face of the scrutiny, Parton's spokesman has responded with an outright denial: "No, she sings live," he told the Sunday Mirror. "Some people don't know an amazing singer when they hear one."

It was Kay Burley of Sky News who first decided to air her views regarding Dolly's perceived miming. "Oh, Dolly is miming. How disappointing," she tweeted, ahead of a string of similar sentiments from users of the social site. However, TV host Stephen Fry jumped to Parton's defence, blaming television-related delays for making it look like Dolly's sound wasn't synched.
