Radiohead have been officially confirmed as the first headliners at the 2017 Glastonbury Festival, after a number of rumours strongly suggested that they would be one of the three bill-topping acts.

Glastonbury’s organiser Emily Eavis confirmed the news that many had been expecting on Thursday afternoon, posting on Instagram: “YES! Radiohead will be back at Worthy Farm and we really can't wait!”

Grime star Skepta has edged out competition from red hot favourite David Bowie to win the 2016 Mercury Prize for his album Konnichiwa in London.

The crowd at the Hammersmith Apollo erupted when Skepta’s name was announced as the eventual winner of the prestigious prize by Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker on Thursday night (September 16th).

The bookies had tipped David Bowie to win posthumously for his final album Blackstar, released just two days before his death in January this year, but the 33 year North London rapper was not very far behind in their estimations either.

Radiohead, Skepta, The 1975 and the late David Bowie are the big names to have been shortlisted for the 2016 Hyundai Mercury Music Prize, with Adele and previous winner James Blake the notable absences.

The 12-strong shortlist, picked by a panel of music critics, industry figures and artists, was announced on Thursday morning (August 4th) on BBC Radio 6 Music. David Bowie’s 25th and final album Blackstar, released just two days before his death in January this year, is already being touted as one of the favourites to win the overall prize when the winner is announced on September 15th.

Radiohead’s recent album A Moon Shaped Pool makes the Oxford five-piece the most nominated act in Mercury Prize history. Their albums OK Computer, Amnesiac, Hail To the Thief and In Rainbows all made shortlists in previous years, and this doesn’t even count lead singer Thom Yorke’s nomination for his 2006 solo album The Eraser. However, they have not yet won the award.

A group of Radiohead fans miraculously survived a vicious attack in Istanbul this weekend after their album listening party was stormed by Islamic radicals who violently assaulted them with pipes and beer bottles. The band has since reached out to express their support for the victims.

Radiohead supporters took to the Velvet Indieground record shop in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday (June 17th 2016) for an official album listening party of the band's latest release 'A Moon Shaped Pool'. They were not able to enjoy much of the event though as they were soon stormed by a bunch of armed Islamist radicals who were allegedly angered by the fans drinking alcohol during the month of Ramadan. No deaths or serious injuries have been reported.

Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke surprised guests at a small Oxford garden party this weekend by performing a short set of songs.

A Reddit user posted the news on Sunday afternoon (June 12th), after apparently receiving a text from his father reading: “in Oxford at [a] garden party with Suzie's neighbours, about to hear entertainment from neighbour Tom York of Radiohead!”

Later on, a video shot by another attendee at the party surfaced, showing the frontman sat with just an acoustic guitar. It’s said that Yorke performed for around 30 minutes, playing ‘Desert Island Disk’, ‘No Surprises’, ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’, ‘Reckoner’ and ‘I Might Be Wrong’.

We can't say we didn't see it coming; Radiohead now have what looks like the beginnings of a lawsuit on their hands after releasing their 'Burn The Witch' video featuring cute puppets, as the creators of 'Trumpton' have lashed out over the non-consented use of imagery similar to their own puppet world.

If Radiohead were a little more flattering in their use of the stop-motion imagery, it may have been forgiveable, but this is a song about witchhunts and the video is a little too sadistic to be approved for children. It follows a story similar to 'The Wicker Man' and alludes to execution and witchhunts throughout. It's a stark contrast to the idyllic original children's animation, that's for sure.

Radiohead have announced that their long-awaited new album will be with us in just two days’ time, as well as releasing a music video for another new track, ‘Daydreaming’.

The Oxford five-piece’s ninth studio album - as yet untitled - will be released digitally this Sunday, May 8th, at 2pm with a physical release across all other formats coming on June 17th.

On Friday afternoon (May 6th), the band also released a haunting video directed by film-maker Paul Thomas Anderson that is, musically and visually, pretty much the total opposite of previously released track ‘Burn The Witch’ that they dropped earlier this week.

Radiohead may have just today launched a creepy new song entitled 'Burn The Witch', but we're having a bit of a nostalgic moment reflecting on the fact that it's been over 20 years since they released their amazing second album 'The Bends'. They've come a long way.

Hours after teasing fans with two mysterious, animated short clips via Instagram, Radiohead have delighted their legions of followers by releasing the music video for a new single ‘Burn the Witch’, the first from their brand new forthcoming album.

The Oxford five-piece, renowned for their ground-breaking albums, have spent most of 2016 dropped small clues online about a possible new release. Two days ago, on May 1st, they had removed virtually their entire online presence, whiting out their official website and deleting the content of their Twitter, Google Plus and Facebook accounts.

After deleting virtually their entire online presence over the weekend, Radiohead have now shared some new communication with their fans by posting two animated videos via their Instagram account.

On Sunday (May 1st), the group wiped the entire contents of their Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus accounts and their official website faded to white so that nothing could be seen. Many took this as a sign that the group were preparing a big official announcement concerning a new album.

However, at 6am British time on Tuesday, the following brief video of an animated bird chirping was posted on the group’s official Instagram account.

It’s that time of year again: the annual rumour mill of who is going to be making appearances at Glastonbury, plausible or otherwise. Although the three Pyramid Stage headliners have been revealed – Muse on Friday, Adele on Saturday, and Coldplay rounding things off on Sunday – there are literally several hundred other slots to be filled on the numerous other stages.

The Sunday afternoon ‘legends slot’ has also already been confirmed, with ELO set to entertain the crowds. However, there are always rumours flying around during the festival itself as to who’s going to be making low-key, surprise appearances. The reformed Libertines did so last year, appearing at the Pyramid Stage. So, are there any major names that might do this in 2016?

Radiohead have announced a world tour which will see the band visit 11 countries and play at least 22 shows. News of the tour has caused fans to speculate that the band’s ninth studio album could be on the way and their social media pages have been updated with to feature new artwork, reminiscent of the work by long-time collaborator Stanley Donwood.

Fans on the Radiohead forum At Ease have ascertained that the band founded a company called Dawn Chorus LLP in October 2015, with the five officers named as the five members of the group (Thom Yorke, Jonny and Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway).

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has blasted YouTube and Google for having “seized control” of art like Nazi Germany did during the Second World War, in a new interview with an Italian magazine.

Yorke, who once described Spotify as “the last desperate fart of a dying corpse”, has been consistently outspoken on musicians’ relationships to the music industry. Speaking to La Repubblica at the weekend, he lambasted the ethical stances of YouTube and its parent company Google.

Radiohead singer Thom Yorke has claimed that advisers for former British prime minister Tony Blair tried to force him to have his photograph taken with the politician, but that he had refused on the grounds that it was “morally unacceptable” because of Blair’s role in the Iraq war.

Yorke, 47, said that advisers to Blair “tried to blackmail” him into a photo shoot with the PM in 2003, shortly after the second war in Iraq had started and when the singer was the spokesperson for environmental campaign The Big Ask, run by Friends of the Earth.

He was presented with an “ultimatum” that unless he participated, lobbyists for Friends of the Earth would be denied access to Blair.

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has revealed his new album will be named Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes and will be released using an experimental method. In a statement signed by Yorke and producer Nigel Godrich, the pair outlined how they intend to release the record, using a new BitTorrent client.

“As an experiment we are using a new version of BitTorrent to distribute a new Thom Yorke record,” began the statement. "The new Torrent files have a pay gate to access a bundle of files.. The files can be anything, but in this case is an 'album'".

Festival goers could still party like its 1999 this weekend, as rumours that Prince could still appear at Glastonbury continue to surface. As we previously reported, it was revealed this week that negotiations to book the funk legend for a Worthy Park headline slot broke down after the star got cold feet following ‘social media rumours’ about his appearance.

Prime Minister David Cameron has promoted young British musicians by giving all the G8 leaders a 10-track USB stick containing songs from Alt-J, Conor Maynard, Laura Mvula and Gabrielle Aplin with a very prominent theme of love.

Perhaps the Tory party leader is attempting to up his "cool" factor or seem down with the kids - the voters of tomorrow - having also recently been seen at Oxfordshire's Cornbury Festival and regularly sharing his music taste with reporters. The ten songs weren't selected by the busy PM however, rather the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) assembled the tracklist presented to each of the G8 leaders on a USB stick.

Thom Yorke appears to have responded to producer Stephen Street's criticism over his yanking of tracks from Spotify, claiming he gave away Radiohead's album In Rainbows as a "statement of trust."

Earlier this week, Yorke and Nigel Godrich delivered a scathing critique of the streaming service's business model before making both his solo and Atoms for Peace tracks unavailable.

"The reason is that new artists get paid f*ck all with this model.. It's an equation that just doesn't work," said Godrich in one of several messages re-tweeted by Yorke.

Thom Yorke’s statement will have hit Spotify’s PR team like a knife to the chest. The well-respected musician pulled his music off the streaming service, condemning its practice, specifically the payment to artists, which Yorke says works for the shareholders but not for the musical talent.

Nigel Godrich, Radiohead producer and member of Atoms For Peace, sent out a series of Tweets attacking Spotify. He wrote: “We’re off of Spotify. It’s bad for new music. The reason is that new artists get paid f**k all with this model. It’s an equation that just doesn’t work.” Yorke added: “Make no mistake, new artists you discover on Spotify will not get paid. Meanwhile shareholders will shortly be rolling in it. Simples.” The singer said he was “standing up for our fellow musicians.”

The British music producer Stephen Street, best known for his work with The Smiths in the 1980s and Blur in the 1990s, has weighed into the debate over Spotify's royalties model in the wake of Radiohead's Thom Yorke pulling his music from the streaming service. Currently, the web company - which offers 20 million songs - pays artists as little as 0.4p per stream. To put it into context, a song with one million plays would earn the artist £3,800.

It prompted Yorke and long-time producer Nigel Godrich to publically criticize Spotify on Twitter this week, with the Radiohead frontman pulling his solo work as well as his Atoms for Peace tracks from the service. 

Godrich wrote: "We're off of Spotify. It's bad for new music. The reason is that new artists get paid f**k all with this model. It's an equation that just doesn't work."

It looks like Glastonbury 2013 may already have its first big name already sorted, with festival organiser Michael Eavis admitting that he is on the verge of signing The Rolling Stones as the closing act for the five day festival in the Somerset countryside.

The festival currently has no confirmed headline acts, with the line-up not being announced until much closer to the event, which runs from Wednesday 26 – Sunday 30 June, 2012. Still, this hasn’t deterred people from snapping up the tickets, with the whole festival selling out within minutes of the tickets becoming available on October 7. Whilst cancelled tickets will be made available for resale in April next year, it is more than likely that they will go just as fast.

A source close to Eavis has spoken to tabloid paper The Sun to reveal that the first headline act will potentially be the Stones, admitting that the festival head is “desperate” to sign up the veteran rockers. Should the band agree to perform at the festival, it will be the first time they have appeared at the historic meeting ground for music enthusiast and festival goers that has seen the likes of Radiohead, Beyonce, Jay Z, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and the Arctic Monkeys headline in the past.

Revenge is sometimes best served cold and sometimes in a river of blood a la Kill Bill, however for one Radiohead fan, revenge is best served by selling your ex's gig tickets and advertising them exclusively available for attractive women.

The unnamed Radiohead fan decided to sell his ex-girlfriend's tickets having found out that she had cheated on him with two other men during their three year relationship. He states that “It is therefore necessary that the people purchasing these tickets be attractive females that will pose in flirty photos with us at the [...]gig.” The seller finished the advertisement stating that “Sex after the concert is optional but encouraged.”

This kind of online revenge is becoming more and more commonplace. The days of tyre-slashers and bunny boilers are over, and there are now websites dedicated to wreaking revenge on your ex or whomsoever you deem to deserve it. However, of course, you can take on a personal project as parents of a One Direction fan did, who also chose to sell their kid's tickets online after having caught them smoking, reports Stere0board.com.

Radiohead finally returned to play the UK this week for the first time since they headlined Glastonbury Festival in the summer of 2011. Many things have changed for the band since that headline show at Worthy Farm, most of them centred around the tragedy that afflicted them when a storm at an outdoor gig in Toronto killed their guitar technician Scott Johnson, yet one thing that remained between this year and last was their desire to trick and confuse their audience who were hoping that a high profile show might mean a smattering of the old hits.

The Independent reports that when playing the O2 Arena in London last night (October 8, 2012), Radiohead gave their fans 'Karma Police', but that was about it for sing-alongs unless you count more recent efforts like 'Nude'. Instead, with two drummers instead of one, they propelled themselves rhythmically through much of their latest album 'The King Of Limbs', fleshing out the songs into something all the more powerful than they seemed on record.

The group had returned to Britain in Manchester on Saturday night (October 6, 2012) and chopped their set list a little from that night, taking out 'Paranoid Android' and 'Planet Telex', though including 'Kid A' and '15 Step'. The group finished with 'Everything In Its Right Place', leading into it with a rendition of REM's 'The One I Love'.
