The Disney corporation will begin construction on two new Star Wars attractions in 2016, according to the company’s Chief Operating Officer Thomas Staggs. Both will be built in Disney’s two existing theme parks in Florida and California.

The areas, which will be themed ‘lands’ at each park, will be 14 acres each, representing the largest single-themed expansions in terms of size in Disney’s history, according to the news that was announced on Thursday (September 10th).

Disney bought out Lucasfilm, which holds the rights to all things Star Wars, for $4.06 billion back in 2012. Staggs, speaking at the Bank of America-Merrill Lynch 2015 Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference in Beverly Hills, remained tight-lipped as to when the attractions would actually be opened, but we already have a rough idea as to what the attractions will include when they do.

The late Peter Cushing is reportedly set to appear in the upcoming spin-off Star Wars Rogue One, thanks to the magic of CGI. According to the Mail on Sunday, Cushing will rise from the dead onscreen to play the iconic villain Grand Moff Tarkin in the upcoming movie, which is set between the events of Episode III and Episode IV.

“This is one of the most complex and costly CGI re-creations ever,” a source told the newspaper. “Cushing is a pivotal plot line as he was the one to create Darth Vader and there’s a whole back story that will come out.”

At the Disney D23 EXPO on Saturday, Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced some exciting plans for new attractions at the Disney theme parks in Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California. Star Wars, Toy Story and Avatar will all be getting their own new themed attractions, representing a shift away from the traditional Walt Disney characters.

Disney Parks is adding more Star Wars based attractions.

Star Wars land, which will come to both Disney Word and Disney Land, will be the ‘the largest single land expansions either of those parks have ever had," Scott Trowbridge, the Imagineering executive overseeing the project told fans at D23. The area will replace Disneyland's current Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland and open up nearby ‘backstage’ areas. Work on the land is expected to commence sometime in 2017.

Following the stupendous success he’s enjoying with Jurassic World, still riding high in global box offices over two months after its release, director Colin Trevorrow has been announced as the helmsman for Star Wars: Episode IX, according to Heroic Hollywood.

The American director, 38, will be in charge of the ninth instalment of Star Wars, the closing part of the third trilogy of movies that will be beginning with The Force Awakens, which is opening in cinemas this December. Episode IX is not scheduled for release until 2019, but groundwork with production artists will be getting under way before 2015 is out.

Calista Flockhart is fully supportive of her husband’s return to flying. Flockhart’s husband, Star Wars actor Harrison Ford, was involved in a plane crash earlier this year which left him in hospital for a number of weeks. Ford’s quick thinking ensured no one on the ground was injured but it was certainly a near miss.

J.J. Abrams, whilst making an appearance on The Daily Show, revealed he broke his back on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The 49-year-old director was trying to help Han Solo actor Harrison Ford after an accident on set, in which Harrison broke his ankle, when his injury occurred.

Mark Hamill is reprising his role as the voice of the Joker in the upcoming animated film adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke. Hamill voiced the Joker, and a number of other small roles, in Batman: The Animated Series from 1992 to 1994 and The New Batman Adventures from 1997-1999. He also provided the voice for the Joker in the Batman: Arkham video game series.

A new interview has revealed that one of the most hated movie characters of all time – Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, no less – might have been even more annoying. Michael Jackson was apparently very enthusiastic to play the irritating Gungan in prosthetic limbs, but was refused by George Lucas.

Ahmed Best, who actually did play Jar Jar, gave an interview with Vice on Thursday in which he made the revelation. Jackson, who passed away in June 2009, was known to be a keen Star Wars fan, keeping life-size figures of Darth Vader, C-3PO and Boba Fett at his Neverland ranch.

Amy Schumer’s Star Wars themed GQ shoot was not approved by Lucasfilm. Schumer featured on the cover of GQ’s August edition in a shoot she designed herself. She was pictured in suggestive poses with robots C-3PO and R2-D2, can-can dancing with Storm troopers and partying in a bar with some beloved Star Wars characters. Some Star Wars fans took to Twitter to express their distaste and Lucasfilm was forced to reply, confirming they had nothing to do with the shoot.

Daniel Craig has rubbished the notion of making a cameo appearance in the forthcoming Star Wars movie, after Simon Pegg let slip by accident that the big screen icon will be making a brief turn as a Stormtrooper.

The James Bond actor, busy putting the finishing touches on his fourth movie as the British spy Spectre, gave pretty short shrift to the rumour when it was raised in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Harrison Ford gave the audience at the Star Wars Comic Con panel a good excuse to break the convention’s no standing rule on Friday when he made a very special surprise appearance. It was Ford’s first public outing since his plane crash back in March, in which he sustained multiple injuries including a broken pelvis and ankle.

The panel to discuss the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens drew a 7,000 strong crowd of diehards, many of who had queued for days to secure a place. Towards the end of the panel moderator Chris Hardwick asked the crowd, “Is Harrison OK? Well, why don’t we see for ourselves?” before bringing out the Han Solo actor.

A new Star Wars spin-off movie revealing the backstory of iconic character Han Solo has been announced by Disney. The as-yet-untitled adventure will follow the first Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One, which is set for release next year on December 16th.

Jake Lloyd, the actor who played young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars prequel The Phantom Menace, has been arrested in Charleston, South Carolina after a car chase with local police, TMZ reports.

Jake Lloyd starred as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

The 26 year old actor was said to be passing cars on the double yellow line and driving recklessly at high speeds, when cops began pursuing him, with the chase reportedly lasting ‘for miles’ and going into another county.

The 72-year-old actor was spotted back at Santa Monica Airport on Thursday (28th May), looking healthy and remarkably calm for someone who had suffered serious injuries from a crash just months before. Ford was also seen co-piloting a helicopter from the airport.

Major video game news today, as Disney released some details about the upcoming third instalment of its successful franchise ‘Infinity’. The sandbox game will feature elements of the hugely anticipated ‘Star Wars’ movie The Force Awakens, in addition to several of the company’s other major franchises.

‘Infinity 3.0’, currently due for release in the third or fourth quarter of 2015, will contain some features connected to The Force Awakens, not due for release in cinemas until Christmas Day. It will also feature gameplay of scenes from the original trilogy and its three prequels.

More details have been revealed about the upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie Rogue One, which will star Felicity Jones and is being directed by Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards. The director revealed more details about the film’s plot during a special panel, held on the final day of the Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, California.

'Star Wars' is a phenomenon. It's a big week for Star Wars. The first trailer for The Force Awakens drops on Friday (November 28, 2014), though a juicy rumor about Gareth Edwards and Gary Whitta's spin-off movie is also doing the rounds.

Anthony Daniels, the actor who has appeared as C-3PO in all six Star Wars films, has confirmed that no CGI will be used for his character in Jj Abrams upcoming Episode VII. The actor, who is the only member of the Star Wars cast to appear in all six films, was replaced by CGI animation for C-3PO’s action seances in the prequel trilogy.

I will tell you that when JJ Abrams rang me to ask about filming Episode VII, one of the first things he said after he told me how wonderful I was — and that didn’t take long — but he then said, ‘Would you be interested in being in the film just doing the voice?’ I said, ‘No.’ And he said, ‘Right!’ He knew I’d say that.”

The actor Miltos Yerolemou, the best known for playing swordsman Syrio Forel in HBO's 'Game of Thrones' series, has joined the cast of Disney's 'Star Wars: Episode VII'. Yerolemou has played numerous parts involving sword-fighting throughout his career and it is assumed he will take up a similar role, perhaps with a lightsaber, in J.J Abrams' movie.

Looking at the existing stills for the new game, it’s clearly based on the Clash of Clans ‘base building’ model that has spawned a glut of similar titles. Players construct their own bases, then attacks those belonging to other players while simultaneously defending their own. Here, though, the landscape is Tatooine and the building blocks of the game are TIE fighters and Stormtroopers.

Actress Christina Chong, probably best known for 24: Live Another Day, has signed on for a small role in JJ Abrams' 'Star Wars: Episode 7', according to Latino Review. Chong's previous credits include Madonna's W.E.

Her casting comes not long after a couple of unknown actors, Crystal Clarke and Pip Anderson, also joined the cast. The former will play the ambitious street orphan Rachel who uses "humor and guts to get by." Anderson plays Thomas, a fatherless guy in his late teens or early twenties who "understands you can't take life too seriously."

We don’t get many leftfield directorial appointments in the world of movies, so Rian Johnson’s Star Wars nod really is something to savour. Johnson will direct Star Wars Episode VIII, and word on the street is that he’ll be working Episode IX, too.

The reaction to Disney and LucasFilm’s decision has been reasonably muted, which should be taken as a positive sign for Johnson. He has a short but impressive CV, including the highly celebrated Brick, his excellent work on the complex, intricate sci-fi thriller Looper and of course, three episodes of Breaking Bad – The Fly, Fifty-One and Ozymandias.

The forthcoming 'Star Wars' trilogy may have just found its next director.

Lucasfilm have apparently approached filmmaker Rian John to write and direct 'Star Wars: Episode VII' and 'Star Wars: Episode IX,' Deadline reports.

The 40 year-old would be taking over from the sci-fi franchise's current director J.J. Abrams, who has previously insinuated that he would only take the helm of 'Star Wars: Episode VII,' which is currently being filmed in the U.K.'s Pinewood Studios.

Chancellor George Osborne is excited about a new Star Wars spin-off, but not in the same way sci-fi geeks are. In fact, he announced the news that it would be filmed in the U.K via Twitter with the hashtag “#LongTermEconomicPlan”. Exciting, huh?

The spin-off, which has been rumoured to centre on one of Star Wars’ iconic supporting characters; Han Solo and Boba Fett have been heavily rumoured. Mr Osborne said: “Lucasfilm and Disney’s decision to shoot the Star Wars standalone movie in the UK is testament to the incredible talent in Britain,” in a statement. “This will mean more jobs and more investment. It is great news for people working at Pinewood Studios, from the set designers to the carpenters.”

He’s been the evil wizard Saruman in one of the biggest grossing blockbuster franchises of all time. That’s right, the legendary actor and go-to Hollywood villain also possesses a serious set of pipes, and his ominous baritone has found a natural home within the most melodramatic of genres.

To celebrate his 92nd birthday, Lee has recently released an E.P of covers entitled Metal Night, which is now available to purchase. The record will be his third covers E.P, after two Christmas-themed E.P’s were released in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Lee also received the accolade of the oldest living musician to enter the music charts as his song ‘Jingle Hell’ reached 18th in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His current release features covers of two tracks from the Don Quixote smash-hit Broadway musical Man La Mancha.

Harrison Ford has described the prospect of starring in a Blade Runner sequel as "curious and exciting." The veteran actor - who is apparently starring in JJ Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII - spoke of Ridley Scott's planned movie during a Reddit Ask My Anything session on Sunday (April 13, 2014).

Peter Mayhew is to reprise his role as Chewbacca in Disney and Lucasfilm's upcoming movie Star Wars Episode VII and could even have begun shooting his scenes at London's Pinewood studios. Mayhew played the Wookiee and Han Solo's co-pilot in the original trilogy, beginning with Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope in 1977.

Mark Hamill kept tight lipped when he took part in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit earlier this week in regards to his potential involvement in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII. The 62-year-old actor, who portrayed Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy, was open and answered most questions as thoroughly as possible, but when the Star Wars reboot questions inevitably came up, he managed to give very little away.

In response to being quizzed over Carrie Fisher apparently letting it slip that she and Mark will be in the new films, he replied, "The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn’t stopped beeping about it."

Before Tupac's untimely passing in 1996, where the rapper was killed in a drive by shooting in Las Vegas, he was scheduled to audition for a role in Star Wars.

The revelation came from the former Death Row Records chief engineer Rick Clifford.

The 'Hit Em Up' rapper was supposedly set to read the part of a Jedi master for 1999's 'Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace', before his death on September 13th 1996.
